The food here is simple but very well cooked and it is not expensive .You can get a good meal and drink here7days a week in the summer months you can eat outsid... read more The food here is simple but very well cooked and it is not expensive .You can get a good meal and drink here7days a week in the summer months you can eat outside they also do breakfast as well each day.The do a good selection of coffee and other drinks the staff all speak at least two languages one of them been English the staff from the railway's eat here you know a place is good if the locals eat here as well.The menus changes daily and you don't have to stay at the youth hostel to eat here.

Probably the only really good dining deal in Switzerland for a complete dinner..we dined there on two consecutive nights in May......for 17.50 CHF (approx $20 U... read more Probably the only really good dining deal in Switzerland for a complete dinner..we dined there on two consecutive nights in May......for 17.50 CHF (approx $20 USD) you get a nice sized fresh salad, very generous portion entree (first night was pasta Bolognese...so-so, but I'm Italian and picky in that regard, but 2nd night was great...Thai curry-peanut chicken was very good) and also a generous-sized scoop of ice cream (your choice of about 6 different flavors). They have tap water (free) from a special spigot sink, with pitchers nearby if you want to bring it to your table. entree is prepared fresh (stir-fried), so it's not really buffet. there is also a decent selection of menu items (reasonably priced) if you don't care for the nightly special. we're not talking haute cuisine, but a very good deal with some tasty food and a relaxed atmosphere...there are also tables where you can dine outside along the main st.

But I had a horrib... read more We were a group of 3 lodging in Interlaken Youth Hostel last end of October. The Hotel is nice, well-located and good staff in the reception. But I had a horrible experience in the restaurant with the Chef. When we arrived, the receptionist told us that we could bring food from outside and eating there in designated tables for that using plates and cutlery from the restaurant, it was the some in Lucern and Zúrich Youth Hostels without problems.We had the dinner from the Restaurant in the youth Hostel the first night but it was nothing special, for this reason, we brought food from outside the second night and I asked for cutlery and plates in to the Chef in the restaurant, he was really rude and disgusting but he gave me that. When I was walking to the table, my friends saw him looking at my and making negative gestures in a very bad manner, i felt really bad when they told me that. After that, I was looking at him and I realised that he was very unpolite with people coming from outside Swiss or not looking like from northern Europe, I felt a clear racist actitude from him.On the next morning I told what had happened at the reception and they were very sorried and asked me for apologise, and the receptionist told me that it has not been the first time.Restaurants

We were l... read more We had tea and fruit tart here most afternoons on our way back from trips up in the mountains and it's a great stopping off place from Interlaken Ost. We were lucky and had a week of sunshine so were able to sit outside at the many tables (in both shade and sun) and people watch for a very pleasant half hour or so.We were so impressed with the service and the look of the food/menu, we decided to try here for our evening meal and were really pleased we did.We chose from the main menu and were very pleased with both meals. We had the sweet and sour chicken and the teriyaki steak, both came with a large portion of rice. I was able to watch the chef cook both in front of me in the open kitchen so I can vouch for how fresh everything was. All hot meals also come with a small side/starter salad. The cost, for both food and beers/wine, was very reasonable for Switzerland.They also do a daily 3 course special (which is actually one of the dishes taken from the main menu) which includes the salad, main course and a scoop of ice cream for a very reasonable set price (I think it was 19 SF).
