I came across this charming little restaurant while browsing the stores on the second floor of Beachwalk. The 20% off coupon I had was a nice bonus. I appreciated the option to sit outside, and the waitstaff were very friendly, accommodating us quickly. I chose to skip the soy sauce on the edamame, and I’m glad I did. However, the sushi was just average. Would I return? Probably not.
The meal was great and really yummy! I got the garlic maguro steak meal, which was $15.00. There is a 20% kamaaina discount on the lunch meal sets. All of the sets include miso soup and a salad. The restaurant is pretty small, so I would recommend going early. Overall, I would recommend going to this place before they close. They are planning on closing at the end of June 2019.
So so so sad to hear this place is closing soon. Which is why I've been trying to go more often! Especially when in craving good Japanese food. The first time I've ever been here was back in 2013. I remember tje sushi being good, but nothing really stood out to me. Little did I know it was because I ordered the wrong things. We decided to try this place out again especially because i work so close now. I tried a good amount of things, and each time I have a new server I'll ask what they recommend. My favorites are the ika natto, the yari ika, karakara, kabocha, and awabi&uni martini. Service is always really good, and there usually isnt a wait for a table. They have a good happy hour and also offer kamaaina discount for their lunch menu!
Always have to view restaurants in Waikiki with a grain of salt because most of the reviews are from out of town people on holiday and so I think they might be more generous with their reviews since hey everything's all good on vacay. But some of the best Japanese restaurants can be in Waikiki so I'll endure the traffic and parking and crowds to go. Good things about this place include validated valet parking at the embassy suites for some amount $6? $4? . You drive down beach walk and pull into driveway. And then enter through the hotel to come out the other side onto lewers and the restaurant is right there on the second floor. Super easy. The food is a mix of some really interesting Japanese food like homemade tofu and mozuku and mochi senbei and fresh abalone sushi and uni. But also some stuff catering to the non Japanese palate like crazy spicy rolls etc. they accommodated us though we were a big group and were quite patient. The size is big enough so you don't feel crowded with tables next to you. I ordered an okonomiyaki and was a little disappointed when I got an omelette type dish that didn't resemble okonomiyaki. I think this place was fine and the wait staff was good but there are better Japanese places in honolulu and even in Waikiki.
