Broken rice wasn't bad. I had expected even worse and was better than I thought. It is acceptable if you are in the area, but not the best on this island. Service was okay, they seem limited to the mother and the pop just doesn't even make sure if they have a cook or if they do it all. Very nice people.
This crab soup special, made with broken rice, is definitely one of the top three best things I've eaten on this trip. We visited The Pig and the Lady the day before, which is the Vietnamese restaurant everyone recommended, but we both preferred the broken rice here. The crab broth is incredibly aromatic (I poured it into the bowl first—check out the before and after shots by swiping right). The dish includes rice vermicelli noodles, fresh crab, Vietnamese ham, tofu, tomatoes, and homemade meatballs made with pork and crab. I highly recommend trying their coconut tapioca (che) for dessert!
I've been here twice now. The crab soup is amazing and worth the full price. The taste is perfect, the broth is crabby and not too salty and it just feels like home if you grew up in a family that cooks. The special broken rice with pork is also divine. The shaken beef is delicious and just as good as the other 2 dishes I mentioned. But unfortunately the portion isnt worth the $18. For $12-14 would be fine, but $18 is too high. Highly recommend. Don't get me wrong, the beef is a great choice. But if you can eat a lot, this one won't fill you. Try this place!
Very fresh, authentic, and clean. I can tell they don't put MSG in their food like other Vietnamese places.
We made reservations a week earlier for a 7:00pm date with this restaurant tonight. We planned to be here after attending a play at the Diamond Head Theater. It just so happens that it was very cold, rainy and windy when we exited the theater. So, our group of 4 each ordered a noodle broth, 2 of the beef pho’s and 2 of the oxtail pho’s. The broth was so good. Also had the grilled shrimp appetizer, also very good. Would like to return to the restaurant. So good.
