Sakura - Hilo
Sakura
Description
Sakura stands out as a premier sushi restaurant, celebrated for its fresh seafood and elegant presentation. Diners rave about the flavorful rolls, such as the beloved Tre Roll and Samurai Roll, often recommending additions like cream cheese for enhanced taste. The casual yet inviting atmosphere is complemented by attentive, if sometimes inconsistent, service. While the restaurant generally accommodates patrons well, some safety concerns—like slippery floors—have been noted. Despite minor hiccups, including a lack of kid-friendly interactions, Sakura remains a favorite for its delectable offerings and reasonable prices, ensuring a fulfilling dining experience.

As a safety inspector, I noticed some hazards that should be addressed. The floors were very slippery, creating a slip hazard. Additionally, the chairs need to be more securely fastened to the ground, or have non-slip rubber beneath them, as they pose a fall risk. I hope our next visit is as good as the first, or even better. Kid-friendliness: This restaurant is not particularly suitable for children. The atmosphere is more geared towards adults. Our son repeatedly greeted our waitress, but she was quite rude, ignoring him completely. I found this very disappointing; children will be children, and there’s no need for a dismissive attitude towards their innocence. Parking: So far, we have been able to find parking during our visits. However, the parking spaces are a bit small, so we opted to bring our car instead of our truck.
The staff is always very friendly, everything they prepare tastes great and they always have such nice presentation too. Favorite spot on island.Food: 5/5
The food was great! Had tempura and beef Teri sizzling steak. A decent amount of food and very professional service. Not a fine dining restaurant, casual and relaxed.Food: 5/5
I feel like I was overcharged. They added a tip that was three times the usual amount.
Reminds me of home (Yokohama). There service is outstanding. The restaurant itself has an open, friendly atmosphere, the restroom is wheelchair accessible. Then of course, the food. One of the best chicken katsu I've had.Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible parking available, easy to get in and out of the restaurant. The aisled can sometimes be tricky if the place is full. The restroom is accessible.
