We’ve visited several Bob Evans locations on the west side of Columbus, and this was definitely one of our better experiences. I appreciate dining in places where I can enjoy quality time with my daughter, and this restaurant was perfect for that. It was quiet, and the ambiance was pleasant. Our waitress was incredibly attentive—she greeted all our requests with a smile, was prompt, and our food arrived quickly. Recently, we dined at the Bob Evans on Hilliard Rome Road, where we had to ask for everything, including plates, and our food took ages to arrive. This was not the case here. At this Bob Evans, we were seated immediately, and we didn’t need to ask for drink refills; our waitress proactively offered those and brought them quickly. Our meals arrived hot and delicious without much wait. The waitress anticipated our needs and placed everything on the table without us having to ask, unlike our experience at the other Bob Evans where I had to request everything and wait for it while my food got cold. She also went above and beyond to accommodate my 9-year-old when she requested ice for her hot chocolate. The waitress asked my daughter if she wanted a cup of ice or if she preferred the ice to be added to her drink. This made my daughter feel special. Even though our waitress had other customers to attend to, she made us feel like we were her only priority. I will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend this location—especially the crispy potatoes in a pan! Kid-friendliness: The waitress allowed my daughter to choose her straw, inquired if she wanted a kids' menu, and when she brought her hot chocolate, she used a larger cup and added plenty of whipped cream.
The hostess informed us that they had run out of spoons and inquired if that would be alright, which I found a bit odd. Waiting for refills seemed to take an eternity. The bread on the turkey bacon deli sandwich was disappointingly soggy and unappetizing. It's been years since I last visited Bob Evans, as it's not really my preference. However, I went along this time because someone else was keen on going.
The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Last fall, they appeared to be quite understaffed, but there has been significant improvement since then. It's a lovely place to dine, and I absolutely love the banana bread!
The food wasn't flavorful, but the service was satisfactory. However, there seemed to be only one person managing the entire restaurant.
I asked for the gluten free menu and was told they had none, but they had one 6 weeks ago when I was here. The host sat us in the empty restaurant and the server came over to us and said, “What do you want?” No small talk or pleasantries of greeting. Never did he ask how the food was; rather, brought me the bill and we left moments later. I considered leaving no tip, but I’m not that person and am assuming it was an off day. Maybe it was a cook filling in for a server that called out or something. I have never had such unconcerned service at Bob Evans’s before.
