Austin's - High Point
Austin's
Description
Austin’s is a hearty, family-friendly steakhouse known for excellent steaks, generous portions and standout items like fried zucchini and cold draft beer. Experiences vary: many praise attentive staff and perfect steaks, while others report slow service, inconsistent cooking (undercooked or gray/microwaved textures), and order mistakes. The dining room shows wear—old carpet, water damage and occasional off odors—suggesting a needed facelift. Ample parking, gluten-free options and private-event capability make it appealing for groups, but expect occasional inconsistency.

I went to the restaurant with high hopes for the prime rib, but it turned out to be just okay. I ended up leaving most of it on my plate. My wife wasn't able to finish her chicken wrap either; she only ate the fries. The place really needs a complete makeover. There was an unpleasant smell, similar to a dirty mop bucket, right when we walked in, reminiscent of the IHop on North Main Street. The carpet looks like it should be pulled up or at the very least vacuumed; it’s in bad shape. Overall, our experience was quite disappointing. If you're considering a visit to Austin's, you might want to do it soon. On a positive note, there’s plenty of parking available, and even more spaces will be opening up shortly.
Decent food. Reasonable prices. Good service. My asparagus was mush. No big deal. Baked potato was baked. I ordered the prime rib. It tasted good but it seemed microwaved? It was gray colored on the outside?? Very strange. Ice cold Yuengling on tap in big iced mugs was the highlight!!
We had a truly terrible experience at this restaurant. The service was extremely poor, and the manager used offensive language in front of my grandchildren and nieces. Things escalated to the point where we had to call the police because our chicken was undercooked. I had specifically ordered fries without bacon, but they arrived with bacon on them. The alfredo sauce was bland and unappetizing. We had five kids with us, two of whom ordered burgers that were burnt. I ordered a ribeye steak, but it looked more like a strip steak. I wasn't able to eat any of my meal, yet the manager still expected me to pay. Our waitress left us waiting for 15 minutes before checking in on our party of 14. We came here from Ohio hoping to enjoy some family time, but our experience was quite the opposite. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not even someone who is starving.
I was looking for a restaurant to accommodate a 50th birthday party with a large headcount on a Sat evening. Without hesitation, Bessie accepted my reservation and honored every request I made along the way. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back for our large group needs as well as dinner in general. Thank you Austin's staff for making my BF's birthday a one to remember!!
