An unparalleled dining experience! With a stunning view of the sea and the expansive beach of Paternoster, you can savor the culinary masterpieces created by Chef Kobus Wd Merwe. Each dish is meticulously crafted and beautifully presented. The unique flavor combinations are surprisingly delightful, and even my husband, who typically sticks to steak and chips, thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Be sure to book several month... I arrived early and was able to savor the stunning sunset views as I dined into the evening, paired with some exceptional wines that complemented each course beautifully. By any measure, this restaurant is very reasonably priced. Its small, intimate setting offers excellent service, and the meticulous attention to detail in preparation for a limited number of guests makes it a fantastic value. Wolfgat is truly a culinary adventure that everyone should experience at least once. I, for one, will definitely be returning soon.
This will be remembered as one of my most unforgettable dining experiences. The simplicity, humility, and attention to detail in the kitchen, paired with the exquisite flavors, were truly exceptional. The setting and atmosphere elevate Wolfgat above many five-star establishments in the city. It’s definitely worth the detour!
After wanting to go for ages, we finally made it to Wolfgat, and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait! This place isn't your typical flashy fine dining restaurant; it's all about genuine, rustic charm. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable; they took the time to explain each dish so we understood everything on our plates. But the real highlight was the chef—a truly humble genius! You could see his passion for food as he talked about each dish, and that enthusiasm made us excited to taste everything. As for the food, it was absolutely phenomenal. We enjoyed a seven-course meal that featured mostly seafood, which was a pleasant surprise. I can’t recall all the intricate names of the dishes, but honestly, that didn’t matter because they were all so delicious! Yes, it’s a bit pricey for your average South African, but I assure you it’s worth every penny. This is an experience I will remember for a long time.
We booked four months ago to celebrate our anniversary. Wolfgat did not disappoint. We did opted not to do the wine pairing and Kobus told us that all the wines on the list are chosen specially beause they go with the dishes on the menu. The staff were knowledgeable about each dish and Kobus served a number of the dishes himself. The only negative I have is the coffee after the meal was served with possibly almond milk?? which would not have been our choice had we been given one.
The place where it is almost impossible to reserve a table. Why is that? ‘Cause only 20 people per lunch/dinner are served. We visited South Africa in May and accidentally found this place when I was planning our trip. Of course, 2 months ahead I was not able to book a table for dinner because they were fully booked but they promised if they have a cancellation they will let me know. I did not give it much of a chance but they kept me in their mind! They had cancellations so reached out to me on Friday about an opening for dinner the next day! We were in CT so we hired a driver last minute and went to Paternoster! The round trip took us 4 hours (CT-Paternoster-CT). Was it worth it? Absolutely! I have had the best fine dining experience in South Africa so far! I strongly suggest this place for food lovers. The menu is unique and changes monthly/seasonally. I would love to try other menu too. The chef loves to use fynboos and other african ingredients/plants in his recipes, and local, freshly caught fish and seafood. We choose the wine pairing option and I have to say it was a quite journey. Wines are perfectly matched with dishes but by themselves were quite interesting/surprising. And…he offered a wine produced from a Hungarian grape varietal, Hárslevelű. This was such a heart-warming experience ‘cause I am Hungarian The service was professional, great, and kind. Some dishes and all of the wines were served by the Chef, who gave detailed information about each dish and wine pairing. We had a lovely time there and would love to go back and try another menu as well.
