What Joe S doesn't like about Asahi Ramen Izakaya:
Just had takeout. Had the Ramen and Gyoza. Ramen noodles had a very off putting smell and taste. Pork belly was stiff and dry. Gyoza had a scent of fish. All in all won't be back. Between 8 Dragons and this place the location seems to be cursed with horrific Asian food. Too bad.....maybe the next restaurant in this location will be better as this place won't last. Signed, a Healdsburg local who will warn all to save... View all feedback.
Five of us just had dinner at Asahi Ramen Izakaya. Two had ramen, one ate curry, and two had bento dinners. We were very happy with our choices! The wait staff was very kind and helpful.
Two girls responsible for the front of house and service were good. Very nice and attentive, the rating has nothing to do with their abilities and everything to do with the food. It’s just plain bad- completely uninspired, not really a trace of any actual Japanese technique or flavoring for that part. Rice looked and tasted old, miso was tragically strange tasting. Beer was good lol.Nice staff in the front of house but the back of house is the issue. Just not interested in putting out a product that lives up to the cost. I would recommend a pass on this place for sure.
I want to start this review by saying that their food is amazing! We are original die hards for their sushi restaurant, and thought our Healdsburg dreams came true when they opened the sister ramen restaurant.I know that they have been struggling with maintaining staff to stay open, so I feel bad writing this review but I felt I had to share our very odd experience last night. We chose this restaurant to celebrate a family member’s milestone and we’re excited to introduce the restaurant to family. Unfortunately they were out of pretty much of everything, from their soap in the bathroom, to the appetizers, even the Udon noodles. Most people at the table only drink white wine, which they were completely out of. We asked what the corkage fee would be if we went around the corner and bought a bottle from Safeway to share. Our server (who seemed quite young) said that it would still be $20 to open. No big deal, we did sake and beer instead. When we went to order appetizers for the table, they were out of half of what we normally order. She even had to come back and tell us that one of the things we ordered was out as well. Not a problem, it’s Thursday night so maybe they didn’t order enough supplies to last through the week? Lastly, when we went to order our entrees I did my normal and recommended it to the new people at the table. But we were informed that only two out of our eight people could order the Udon noodles because they were almost out. Cool.We were the only people there the entire time, except for one other table had a person who was eating alone. That person decided to put their phone on speaker and was either talking to someone with a ton of static or was playing a video, who knows? But it was so loud we couldn’t talk to each other over whatever they were doing. We asked the person if they could turn it down (since again we were the only other people in the restaurant) which they did, and we thanked them. But they decided to make sarcastic comments to us throughout the rest of our dinner; at one point they either dropped or spilled something that made a loud noise and shouted over to us, Oh I’m so sorry! Was that too loud for you! Sooo sorry! Luckily that person finished soon after and left. It was very awkward since there was never any staff in the lobby/dinner room, and they never turned on the music the entire duration of our visit. This all was a shame because we’ve had such good experiences at Asahi Sushi on the plaza, and never had anything like this happen during our date nights at Asahi Ramen.Again, the food is always amazing and the quality is always so good. I recommend doing Pick-Up until they are able to hire more staff. It seriously was our favorite restaurant recommendation in Healdsburg, so it breaks our heart to see them struggling. I really hope they are able to hang in there, and get back to their former glory??
