Plern Thai - Haymarket

Went on a Groupon today March 25 2017 and found it closed and gutted. Business next door says it closed for good about a week ago.

I was quite surprised with this restaurant because it is located right next door to one of the most over rated Thai restaurants in Sydney.

It was late, we were tired and hungry. There were a couple of spots that we walked by where there was a wait out the door so decided why not give this place a shot. There were maybe 2-3 other tables of customers when we arrived, and they had live music in the back, which was SO. LOUD. I could barely hear what my mom was saying and she was literally a few feet away (plus we were sitting all the way in the front of the restaurant)! And I was definitely yelling over the "noise" trying to figure out what everyone wanted to eat. The food was OK, nothing to write home about and I could have sworn my Thai iced coffee was a regular iced coffee but they claim it was the right thing. At the end of the day, we were fed and the music had (finally) stopped. My advice, take it down a notch, please, for the sake of your customers.

So we got a Groupon Voucher to try them out as we usually go next door is which is a fantastic place and always busy, but we are always interested in some thing new. Sadly it was awful food and they only gave us half portions, also they made one dish super hot, luckily I like hot food so even though it was also very oily I did eat it, I think the staff who were watching to see my reaction were a bit disappointed. The hot corn dish they offer for desert is disgusting. Staff were also quite rude and while I understand they have to stick to the "deal" rules they don't need to shout it at you and they had trouble with quite a few English words which did not help the increasing levels of frustration on both sides. When we buy a Groupon we always leave a tip and usually but more food and drink - not this time, not going back. We bolted next door for a decent desert - which was yummy as always.

Had dinner this evening , it was so quite and only 3 tables at that time. The front staff was mucking around and talked very loud while couple of them was drilling things. Could you imagine how noisy and annoying was that? which was not a good time to do it while customers was dined in and wanted to enjoy their dinner. Unprofessional, not friendly and arrogant staff. When you face that situation would you still have a mood to eat? Well, i will never ever spend my dollar here.Horrible experience
