Mawney Fish - Havering
Mawney Fish
Description
Mawney Fish Bar presents a mixed dining experience, balancing community spirit with culinary inconsistency. While the staff's friendliness and excellent service foster a warm atmosphere, the quality of the food often falls short of expectations. Diner favorites like fish and chips have received mixed reviews—some lamenting oily batter and unsatisfactory portions, while others praise well-cooked chips and fresh kebabs. Though delivery can be slow, on-site experiences can bring advantages, especially during quieter hours. Overall, Mawney Fish Bar remains a reliable option for late-night cravings, but discerning diners might seek alternatives with more consistent food quality.

These chips are exactly how they should be – well cooked with a satisfying crunch. The fish is prepared perfectly without any complaints. They also offer all the standard kebabs, nicely cubed and cooked over charcoal. Overall, it's a great place for all your fish and chip cravings.
The chips are reasonably priced for the portion size. The saveloys are tasty. The cod is just okay, but you get what you pay for most of the time. The best times to visit are early afternoon before 2 or after 5:30, as they are busiest during these times. I would give it 3 stars, but since I have had better experiences lately, I'll give it 4. I did have a small issue where I only received 24 chips instead of the usual portion size, which were also not as crispy as usual. Overall, it was an okay experience.
I ordered food from this restaurant and they gave me an extra piece of fish for free! We received the full amount we ordered. Even our little dog enjoyed the meal. The food was high quality and the staff were very friendly. Thank you, Tony.
Very good; sequence of traditional fishing and chips produced on request. also large portions and delivered on time. may recommend. Thank you.
Years ago, the Mawney Fish Bar served a decent meal of take-away fish n' chips. Now the batter is oily (old oily to be precise), and a fried cod and chips gave me heartburn, a now regular occurrence over the past two or three years....Too bad. It's convenient but no longer worth patronizing.
