Took mum for Sunday lunch, we hadn't booked but they managed to fit us in, staff lovely, food excellent. The veg was cooked to perfection not too soggy, meat great and extra gravy was provided. Definitely recommend. View all feedback.
What Faylouise80 dislikes about Courtyard:
The carvery first night, starters were clearly just reheated so were dry, carvery itself was okay and meat was nice. Would be better if waiters wore masks as standing over us to talk and serve. View all feedback.
Nice appearance but it ends there We were asked for our orders before we had ordered drinks we had to ask for a wine menu. A bottle was then plonked on the table unopened. The starter arrived very quickly after which was bland and warm at best. As soon as we had finished we were Told to go to the cavery and the chef would carve our meat. The display did not look appealing the Beef was pre sliced and was swimming in a sauce I made the mistake of having Gammon it was dry and grey around the edges. All of the vegetables were dry and over cooked. My wife had Lasagne which was again bland and was swimming in oil and fat. We did complain and the Duty Manager came and was very apologetic and said they would not charge us. We did not complain for free food. For £19.95 you can not expect fine dinning but do expect it to be edible. As we were still hungry we both had stick toffee pudding. This was hot in the middle but cold on the outside the sauce was cold and very watery the chef clearly did not leave it in the microwave for long enough. All around the hotel they are pushing an app to showcase the facilities and menus. Whilst talking to the manager we asked why we could not have the al acarte menu she knew nothing about it.

Welcoming cafe. Staff so nice. Yorkshire ham was brilliant. Poached eggs on toast superb. Blue badge parking. Accessible toilet.
We 've had Sunday lunch here many times over probably around 30 years. On Sunday four of us arrived and were warmly greeted by a waiter who showed us to our table and took our drinks order. The waiter was very knowledgeable and we easily ordered our choices. We 've not eaten here since some time before COVID but it all looked the same. The fantail melon started was well received but the pate arrived with two tiny triangles of floppy toast, lightly browned on one side only which suggest the kitchen doesn 't use a toaster, but rather a 'Merrychef ' which really cannot toast!! The plates were cleared and we were told to go to the carvery and a chef would come out and serve the meat. We went to the carvery but no chef arrived and after several minutes a woman who I thought was a waitress came and chopped gammon for my friend. She was about to similarly attack the beautiful huge piece of beef but a chef arrived and took over. We moved along to the vegetables to find a huge cauldron of red cabbage which I happen to like, and another cauldron with a few green beans floating around. The beans had clearly been simmering for an hour or more and were soggy and tasteless. Roast potatoes were fine but the new potatoes were in a similar state as the beans. Yorkshire puddings were sweating under plastic film. Despite not being greedy the food piled up on the plate as the 'dinner ' plates were not much larger than side plates. One of my friends followed with sticky toffee pudding and custard which was promounced OK but rather small. Two of us had cheesecake which was some horrible cheap catering product chopped into large rectangles. It was accompanied by a tiny squirt of passionfruit coulis, a couple of tiny strawberry slices and a couple of squashed blackberries. One of our party wisely had a coffee instead. The toilets in the entrance are spotlessly clean and well appointed, the restaurant is clean but the upholstery on the chair backs was grubby through constant handling. I was very surprised at the bill which seemed very cheap for a place of that calibre, the food was less than £20 a head which these days is way below expectation. I won 't be hurrying back if I don 't hear from anyone that the food has greatly improved.
