Hong's Kitchen - Halifax
Hong's Kitchen
Description
Hong's Kitchen offers a mix of experiences for its diners. Some found the portions to be good, with favorites like the ginger beef, rice, and hot spring rolls. On the other hand, there were complaints about the lack of meat in the wontons and poorly executed dishes such as the sweet and sour sauce and pan-fried dumplings. Price discrepancies and inconsistent quality were also mentioned, alongside parking issues and a separate smoking room. However, positive reviews praised the authentic and fresh food, excellent service, and accommodating staff. With a mix of opinions, Hong's Kitchen remains a destination worth trying for those looking for traditional, flavorful Chinese cuisine.

My girlfriend introduced me to her favorite Chinese restaurant 5 years ago when we were visiting Nova Scotia. I can honestly say I've never had Chinese food this good before. Very different from the typical combo plates I was used to. I loved everything I tried but surprisingly I enjoyed the Ginger Squid and the Salt and Pepper squid the most. I've hated every calamari dish I've tried so I have to admit I was kind of surprised! I also love their Sweet Sour Chicken (not balls -more like homemade) and the Shanghai noodles. I also love the Curry Beef Pastries which again surprised me because I dont like curry. Looking forward to our next visit!
Wow had the most delicious and satisfying meal and particularly loved the ginger beef mouth watering ! The noodles, chicken and rice and fish dishes were also amazing! Can’t wait for my next meal
Most expensive and disappointing Chinese food experience ever! I was super excited to try a new place and based on the reviews I chose Hongs. The wontons had zero meat in them visible to the naked eye, just deep fried shell. The sweet and sour sauce was just a horrible watery vinegar sauce. Vegetables were visibly old (yellow tops on the broccoli). Definitely won’t be eating here again. The only decent thing was the tiny weird shaped egg roll.
The food and service were outstanding. I sampled their homemade egg rolls, Shanghai noodles, and lemon chicken, all of which deserve five stars. I will definitely return the next time I'm in town.
