The Henry House is a Halifax gem, offering a cozy and historic setting that’s perfect for a relaxing meal or a casual drink. The real highlights here are the amazing cask ales—expertly crafted and always fresh—and the delicious British pies. The hearty, flaky pies, paired with a pint of their signature ale, make for an unforgettable dining experience. With its warm ambiance and attentive service, The Henry House is t... What Tanya S dislikes about Henry House:
There was 7 of us on the patio, which is very cozy (loved the strawberries growing in the planters), our server Danielle was so kind and pleasant! The bathroom was not inviting in the basement….. dark and dingy and the downstairs didn’t feel very clean. The food was fine, nothing to complain about, yet nothing to be excited about either and there are VERY limited gluten free and dairy free options so we most likely w... View all feedback.
I can’t believe I have never put in a review for this Halifax gem. This place has been a perennial favourite since before it was Henry House back when it was the Granite Brewery this spot was a regular hang out during all of my uni days I even had my rehearsal dinner here (for my first wedding lol). It’s always been amazing. Great food, great vibe, with a different feeling on each of its three floors. The basement is more of a proper pub, somewhere to hang out, have pints, study or watch the Coronation Street omnibus. The main floor has a beautiful fireplace and a slightly more formal (but still relaxed) vibe. The curry is great, but my personal favourite has always been the smoked salmon Club sandwich with their house salad, which is divine with blueberries, goat cheese and a balsamic mix vinaigrette which just makes it sing. The pastas are also a big hit, as are all of the traditional pub dishes bangers and mash, pasty of the day. So good! This place is a landmark, both historically and gastronomically, so do yourself a favour and go!
This place slightly off the beaten path has become a favorite in our visits to Halifax. We love the pub decor on the basement floor, but everyone was ecstatic about the drawing room visit for out of this world cocktails. It's only open on Friday and Saturday night but I don't think I've ever seen a nicer pub. The setting is amazing. You feel like you go right back in time. Mason, the mixologist should be given the Order of Canada for his concoctions! He was 100 of the time on the money. You just had to ask what type of taste you were looking for and he executed perfectly. We were a group of five. We were supposed to stay for one drink. Ended up have 5 or 6 and ordered a fantastic dinner while we were there. Mason and Adina made our night. This visit was the highlight of our boys trip. We'll be back next year. But we're secretly hoping to attract Mason to bartend one of our Ottawa summer partys this summer! Well done Henry House. You've got a gem.
The best restaurant in the city. Don't be fooled by national reviews that tout other spots in the city etc. this is our go to in the city, the food is always spot on and the drinks. Also my mother in law loves it which says a great deal :
Wow! Visited this wonderful pub on my last night in Halifax. It was a wonderful meal to end my trip. The atmosphere and decor is incredible. The servers were super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. I had the pan seared haddock and it blew my mind. It was cooked perfectly. The cocktails are amazing and tasty. I ended the night with the strawberry cheesecake, GOD DAMN! This place was so good I would fly to Halifax just to have a meal here. I will return one day. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Love this place! You must try it. Traditional pub fare with plenty of drink options. We were greeted with an additional food menu of specials when we arrived that is not on the website. Lobster/Haddock and chicken pot pie were excellent. This is an extremely well run establishment. Everything tastes scratch made and the service was spot on.
