I had the garnels as an appetizer that was beautiful, and the steam and chips that I ordered medium and got well made and tasteless. but others had the phad thai and the burgers loved eating. I'd say it's not a good steak place. forget to make photos even though it does, youngs that I was too hungry!
The Full Monty. I work weekends usually but last Saturday had a free one and went to Ryan's at noon seeking an all day breakfast, cup of tea and a perfectly balanced **** Mary. Astrid Gilberto softly playing, sun streaming in from the back windows, a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. Sausages excellent, bacon a bit soggy but then I prefer US-style crispy grilled streaky. And I'm very hard to please. Having said that, the scrambled egg felt a bit microwavey. No Black Pudding, Cabbage and Bacon, Bubble Squeak or anything out of the ordinary, but the basic building blocks of a Full Monty are all there. Freshly sourced and cooked ingredients. Eggs, bacon, tomato and sausages. Toast. There are only two things that matter about toast. It must be made from freshly baked bread. And must be served hot and unbuttered. [Or in the case un-margerined] I can't understand why anyone would use packet sliced bread when there's a superb bakery practically next door? What does it cost, a quid? as opposed to The chef is from Thailand. I suppose if I were in Thailand might wonder at the wisdom of spending twice the money to get freshly-made noodles? That's where I'd improve things. And serve it on a tray with a small pot of tea, with butter and some condiments. Fresh parsley on the grilled tomatoes? Freshly ground black pepper and rock salt on the creamy eggs? But this all sounds like a Savoy Hotel breakfast in bed. Served by a saucy young lady in a French maid's outfit. Crumbs. At ten times the price. At the moment it's more like a traditional English breakfast cooked by a Thai chef. Which is what it is. I don't want you to think this is a bad review, the food was delicious and it hit the spot perfectly. So if you want a reasonably-priced hot breakfast that will remove a hangover in a trice, see you at Ryan's.PS. The **** Mary was excellent. Not bad. New people doing the food since I last reviewed. Although I haven't tried one, the burgers look sensational and the new additions to the menu are very interesting. And there's ice cream now.Not served by a midget, but good news anyway!Oh dear. Update to Burger ReviewSad to say the quality has deteriorated somewhat. Buns are appalling like something you'd buy in a packet from a late night shop. Burger was a flat grey patty. So over-cooked it was like eating a slice of elephant's trunk. Chips are clearly frozen, re-constituted potato. Now come on!! Could do better!!Briefly: nice Massaman curry. Satay chicken is deep fried comes with cabbage( Burgers are usually (very) well done so ask for medium rare (You're not asked you for a preference.. and the buns can be inadequate' which is a shame, considering there's the Spence bakery next door. On the plus side the staff are exceptionally good and although overworked are always friendly. Lovely garden. I'm boycotting Urbanspoon for a bit cos it's **** and so slow to load but will update later.PS. i was informed last night by an inside source that there's a customer who brings is own bun [From the Spence and sends it up to the kitchen when he orders a burger. You'd think the message would get through?!!
