Picked Guarda just based on timing and this restaurant/wine bar based on reviews. What an amazing treat. Had no idea what we were getting into. Owner (assume, but person in charge regardless was wonderful). After we suggested splitting lamb stew, asked him to fill it in with food and wine for light lunch. Got a chicken sausage croquette sort of thing (excellent and different) as a starter and red wine…oh, the wine!! Gave us a red that tasted like a $40 bottle. Was 2.5e per glass! Bought 3 bottles to go. Lamb stew was unexpected in a good way. Really a dish of lamb, mashed potato and grilled veggies in a truly great French-type sauce (there are equally good sauces, but I’ve never had better). This is worth going out of your way for. If you’re anywhere near Guarda, go here. Was too bad we couldn’t stick around for dinner too.

Wonderful staff, food that will make you wonder if you’re in heaven, atmosphere that blends modernity with a medieval feeling, location that will make you doubt your eyes and a fantastic selection of wonders of Bacchus.
