Peking - Gravesham
Peking
Description
Gravesend's dining scene presents a mixed bag of experiences. Some establishments leave diners frustrated with poor atmosphere, lackluster service, and dishes that fail to impress, reminiscent of outdated 1970s decor. In sharp contrast, other restaurants offer a charming ambiance, delicious food, and friendly service, creating memorable meals. Patrons rave about the non-greasy, flavorful dishes, attentive staff, and the welcoming environment. Celebrating special occasions here ensures a delightful experience, complemented by reasonable prices and even complimentary drinks. For those seeking an enjoyable meal, Gravesend has hidden gems worth discovering amid its less favorable options.

Unfortunately, this was not a great experience. It was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The restaurant had a poor atmosphere, with only one staff member who handled everything from service to cooking. The decor was shabby with peeling wallpaper, a strange smell, and discolored and holey tablecloths. It seems like the place hasn't been updated since the 1970s. I will not be returning to this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone. I suggest choosing a different place to eat in Gravesend, as there are surely better options available.
This restaurant serves absolutely fantastic food and has excellent service. I adore this place. The 70s decor is authentic and adds to the charm. It's a hidden gem, a bit hard to find unless you know where to look. It's located upstairs close to the Methodist church. I highly recommend giving it a try - I'm sure you'll love it. The duck dish is especially delicious.
I have been coming to this restaurant for most of my life and finally decided to write a review. We always choose this place for special occasions and for good reason. The Peking is a quaint, family-owned restaurant tucked away between two shops. If you enjoy a traditional dining experience, this is the place for you. The food is exceptional and the service is top-notch. We intended to take photos of the food during our recent visit, but we kept forgetting and ended up devouring each course before we could capture it! I can honestly say that I have never had a dish at the Peking that I did not enjoy. Our typical order consists of mixed appetizers, followed by crispy duck with plum sauce, pancakes, and a selection of main dishes. On a recent visit, we decided to try the seafood sizzling platter, which was outstanding and served piping hot! The sizzling platters always attract attention from other diners and often lead to them ordering one as well. The table service is always excellent, allowing us to relax, enjoy a few drinks, and take our time with our meal. We are usually too full for dessert, but when we have indulged in the past, it has always been delicious, particularly the hot toffee apples. We have countless fond memories of this restaurant, having visited for special occasions throughout my life. The restaurant has maintained its traditional charm and decor over the years, which we appreciate. The attention to detail at this restaurant truly sets it apart, and it must be experienced to be fully appreciated. There are few places like this one left, so keep up the great work, and we will see you next time!
Great atmosphere, with lovely food served with a laugh and a smile. We are a group of lads that meet up once a year for a golf day and for the last 4/5 years have visited the Peking Restaurant as a finale to o The experience is always consistently great , with a lovely welcome, super food and service. I just wish I lived closer !!
The restaurant is upstairs from a very unassuming entrance, but continues after many years to deliver consistently good food, charmingly presented. Clearly a hit with locals, it is not ground-breaking or novel, just well done, and the staff are very courteous and solicitous to diners' needs. Highly recommended.
