Gravesend's dining scene presents a mixed bag of experiences. Some establishments leave diners frustrated with poor atmosphere, lackluster service, and dishes that fail to impress, reminiscent of outdated 1970s decor. In sharp contrast, other restaurants offer a charming ambiance, delicious food, and friendly service, creating memorable meals. Patrons rave about the non-greasy, flavorful dishes, attentive staff, and the welcoming environment. Celebrating special occasions here ensures a delightful experience, complemented by reasonable prices and even complimentary drinks. For those seeking an enjoyable meal, Gravesend has hidden gems worth discovering amid its less favorable options.

This restaurant offers fantastic food and service. I adore this place. The décor is authentically 70s and it's a hidden gem. It can be a bit tricky to locate if you're not familiar with the area, but it's above the Methodist church. I'm confident you'll enjoy it. You must give it a try! View all feedback.
What evanod2021 dislikes about Peking:
Unfortunately, this was not a great experience. It was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The restaurant had a poor atmosphere, with only one staff member who handled everything from service to cooking. The decor was shabby with peeling wallpaper, a strange smell, and discolored and holey tablecloths. It seems like the place hasn't been updated since the 1970s. I will not be returning to this restaurant... View all feedback.
My wife called the restaurant to inform them of my son's sesame allergy and asked if it would be a problem. The owner assured her that no dishes would be cooked in sesame oil or contain sesame. As a result, she made a reservation for tonight.
This restaurant is known as the longest-running establishment in Kent, having been established in its current form in 1972. However, its history as a Chinese restaurant dates back even earlier, as I remember visiting it in the sixties when it was called The Oyster. Despite changing ownership over the years, it has certainly accumulated a rich history. Although I am not a regular customer, I have enjoyed dining here on numerous occasions since those early days. One drawback is that the entrance is discreet and up a steep flight of stairs, making it less accessible for those with mobility issues. However, once inside, the interior is welcoming and cozy, decorated in a traditional style that has remained unchanged over the years. The background music of 50’s rock ‘n’ roll adds to the nostalgic atmosphere. The main dining room is small but comfortably furnished, with the option of additional rooms for larger groups. The menu offers a wide selection of classic dishes, and complimentary prawn crackers are provided at the start. The food was delicious, although I found the soft-shelled crab starter to be overly salty. Prices are reasonable compared to similar restaurants in the area. The service was attentive and friendly, and we had a pleasant dining experience overall. Practical information includes the lack of street parking and the restaurant being closed on Sundays. We will continue to dine here as long as we are able to climb those stairs.
There's something very endearing about this restaurant. slightly old fashioned but with a real honest feel. the food is above average for sure, but not quite very good. I had salt and pepper squid. Huge pieces of squid meant it kept tender and had delicious garlic and spring onion with it. Again, a really honest dish without being quite first rate. the squid could have been slightly smaller and the batter slightly less oily. For the main I had satay chicken which could have been spicier and a large shape wheat noodle dish i can't remember the name of (i don't remember seeing it on a menu before) but would recommend. Chinese tea was delicious, prices very good, service as friendly as you can imagine and overall would happily visit again. So without the food being first rate i can happily recommend
This little restaurant is fantastic, the staff are very welcoming and friendly, the food is absolutely amazing .I had the half peking duck for a starter and i must say it was brilliant also the lemon chicken is lovely.I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good far eastern cuisine.Keep up the good work guys I'll be back soon
A very good quality family run restaurant, we had the £16.00 per head set meal and it was excellent, (slight hiccup in that a couple of the skewers that arrived with the mixed starter were not fully cooked, but these were replaced without question or fuss and with a profuse apology). Pleasant surroundings and excellent value, would definitely go back if in the area.
