When we arrived our table was laid up with table cloths and decorations which was a lovely surprise. Some of our party ran a little late but the kitchen staff and Lau were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. To top it off the cake came out with a complimentary dessert with a candle in. We were made to feel very welcome by every member of staff and would like to thank Lau especially for making the evening special.

Ho... read more Even though The Royal Oak is very close to where we live, we hadn't dined there in a while. To be honest, the food had not been very good on previous visits. However, we had heard from various people that things had improved, and the reviews on TripAdvisor seemed to confirm this, so we decided to give it another shot. We were not disappointed. The bar staff were friendly, and our food was delivered quickly and hot. The portion sizes were generous and the food was delicious. We definitely won't wait as long before our next visit. Our only suggestion would be to offer a wider selection of cask ales. While I enjoy Old Speckled Hen, having a different guest beer would be a nice addition.
