A local restaurant in Melbourne has received mixed reviews from customers. Some have complained about slow service, overcharging on the bill, and grungy decor, while others have praised the fantastic food and affordable prices. The venue has a retro style with a cool vibe, and offers a variety of modern Thai dishes that have received positive feedback. Despite some issues with service, the food at this hidden gem is highly recommended for those looking for a unique dining experience. Overall, the restaurant seems to be a popular spot, especially for those who appreciate good food in a vibrant atmosphere.

Was Gabriela at Colonel Tan's a mag?
Best dish: Penang curry! We loved this dish! We have been here 3 times for that. Everything has been great including cocktails. The only negative it was last time the curry was a little bit different. Hope it was only a bad day, we will be back. View all feedback.

What عبير حارث dislikes about Colonel Tan's:
We are locals, and generaly do not write reviews on our local restaurants, but the really poor experience at this restaurant compelled me to share my experience. All thought the servers were nice, they seemed really busy (at 6pm, weeknight) and we had to put up our hand multiple times to request anything. Food was below average , my Pad Thai was too sweet, my son's burger bread bun was 1 inch thick x 2 !! Overcharged... View all feedback.

After walking up a narrow staircase and past a few nightclub rooms, I enter into the cavernous hall that is Colnol Tan's. Above me from the ceiling hangs a hodge podge of different light fixtures and the space is filled with a collection of retro lounges, coffee tables and dining tables. There is a bar where you can order your food. The food is Asian fusion and it does not disappoint. The papaya salad and popcorn chicken are very satisfying. The place is dimly lit and they have funky music playing.

The food is fantastic! However the service is extremely slow! It took them about 45mins to serve our starters and our friends order arrived 20 mins later, because it was forgotten... Total time to get our food 2 hours!!

And the crew usually get it right but not always. A DJ pumps out music in this noisey colourful quirky venue. The Thai food is terrific with many tempting choices. My salad entree and perfectly rendered pork belly were delicious.

Such a surprise to find out that there is a Thai restaurant adjunct to Revs, and what a great discovery too! There was a very strong range of classic Thai dishes, with dietary options covered amongst the noodles, wok dishes, curries and salads. Share plates also looked great however the mains were enough definitely a good portion per person. Plenty of cocktail options with a Thai twist as well as the usuals. The spice level was very manageable and everything was complemented well with a side of rice. Staff were fun and helpful, and the bar tenders were happy to modify cocktails to our preference. Service was on the slower side despite not being a particularly busy night, so would recommend giving yourself time for dinner if you have plans before/after and are looking for a quick Thai meal (this is more of a sit down). Dim red lighting and a very funky layout with the choice to dine at tables or couches. DJ and a photo booth are within the restaurant, and volume inside was decent. Might not be everyone’s choice of ambiance and requires stair access next to Revs, however we thought it was a very fun, quirky and unique setup, targeting adult groups. Ordered: green chicken curry, fat duck noodles, flight of cocktails Price per person: $40–60 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian options: Veg options for all menu sections including share plates, noodles, curries, salads, woks, sides and desserts. Dietary restrictions: Veg, vegan, gluten free options all available. Organic veg and free range meats!

Loved the ambience, and the service was great, a big let down was the food. We ordered satay chicken skewers which were not cooked through, the meat was rubbery, and the barely cooked skin made for an unpleasant mouthful. Satay sauce was good! We also ordered pad thai, which was mainly noodles, and so quite bland. Such a shame, as they are both simple dishes to get right. Sorry, but probably won't be back. Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
