a large group visited recently and how the attentive answer I had during a previous visit with a friend could be said the same with the larger group. we ate a lot of common plates and 2 large plates together with an salat and we were all happy and well fed to the end of the night. What Helene Langworth doesn't like about Captain Baxter:
My partner and I upon approach of the venue were treated as unwelcome "where are YOU going?" by security on the door. My partner was wearing a black tshirt, jeans and shoes and I had on smart jeans and heeled boots. When the sun is out, and captain Baxter has a live singer, you can sit on the top deck looking out towards the ocean, life doesn't get much better.
Food is over priced and very ordinary. menu is limited with marked up prices. Had the BBQ swordfish with goan curry @ $38.. was expecting something spectacular.. instead it was far from anything .. 3 pieces of semi dried swordfish with curry sauce and brown rice. it's more of a drinks venue than for food.
We went to the restaurant for lunch then headed out for drinks on the terrace. We tried a few share plates all of which were delicious. The fish tacos, chicken bao and pork shoulder with flat breads were our favourites. Very reasonably priced and the servings are large so you could probably get one for every two people and a side salad or fries. Would recommend getting to the terrace bar early to secure a spot. It's the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon, especially while republica downstairs have live music playing
Great service, excellent food and very welcoming, attentive staff. The location is superb and there's a real lively buzz - and a great long bar.
