I 've only been there twice once for a beer with colleagues from the men 's choir and once around lunchtime at 11:00 for a Prosecco. The location is central, right opposite the SBB Glarus train station. The dining room is cozy. I can 't judge the food, but I saw in the menu that it meets higher standards and is rather expensive for my budget . There is classic French cuisine, such as Chateaubriand, or steaks... from the hot stone with side dishes for 35 to 50 francs per menu. The fondue chinoise is quite inexpensive at 31.50 per person. You can also eat vegetarian for 15 to 20 or order a chicken cordon bleu for 25... The service was very friendly, but not particularly attentive and not particularly fast therefore only 4 out of 5 stars also because the restaurant closes at 10:30 p.m. ... ? why? You can stay at the Glarnerhof for 140 francs per night. I heard that the hotel rooms 32 rooms with 51 beds were furnished in an “old fashioned” manner. However, government delegations from other cantons and even federal councilors have repeatedly been invited by the Glarus authorities to this traditional and posh house in a prime location in Glarus... Recently just a few weeks ago the owner of this hotel and restaurant changed; a traditional Kunz family from Graubünden, experienced in the catering and hotel industry, is now responsible for the business. The hotel area is to be extensively renovated at a cost of several million euros. Congratulations and a “warm welcome” to the Kunz family. Jos Schüepp

After a hiking afternoon in the untouched canton of Glarus, I had even better dinner at Glarnerhof than my previous visit last year. Access is not easier because the hotel is located directly at Glarus Train Station. The service was very good, but in a Swiss way, i.e. friendly yet not outstanding, efficient and yet unobtrusive. Glarnerhof offers uncomplicated traditional dishes. As a starter I chose the classic tomato mozzarella. The part was perfectly presented, but could be larger due to the price of CHF14.50. On the contrary, the main course was generous and delicious: calfse escalope with fresh mushrooms, spinach and dauphine potatoes. As dessert I ate a Toblerone chocolate mousse with whipped cream: definitely not suitable for diet, but really to die for! The invoice is not cheap at CHF83. But food quality is worth it.
My lunch started badly: I had the impression that the waiters walk around without noticeing my table. But my fears were definitely unfounded. The renter gave me the menu five minutes later apologised for the waiting period and explained that this was due to the lunch break. The waitress apologized. Beautiful explanations are always appreciated! During the meal the waiters were efficient and smiling. The food was classic without surprise. As a starter the tomato soup was good and well seasoned. As the main course, the veal ice cream was perfectly grilled and served with a mixed salad. For Dessert, I chose the homemade cream caramel that was simple and good. All in all a good no foot lunch at fair prices.
We had a quick lunch there in the march to save time we ordered only a salad and a risotto, to my surprise the risotto was made like Chinese porridge! and also really tasted like Porridge!
The restaurant and the food are nice and good. Nothing beautiful but honest local food as you would expect in such a place.
