Located on front street in downtown Georgetown. Arrived at 630 pm with reservations. Sat in back room with water view. Waiter was prompt to arrive who bring menus and waters; and take drink orders. Had Brussel sprouts firecracker shrimp appetizers to start the evening. Both were excellent. I opted to order their Parmesan grouper which consisted of Parmesan fried grouper over white cheddar grits and sauteed spinach, topped with 4 fresh fried shrimp, pickled red onions, horseradish cream sauce, and a balsamic glaze. It was an excellent choices and served hot. Great service from the staff and restaurant has excellent ambience for any gathering. Highly recommend if get the opportunity.

We started with Root salad, a cobbling of mixed greens, red and gold beets, tomatoes and cukes, topped with goat cheese, toasted pecans and accompanied by warm bread. Caleb, our bartender/waiter was friendly and steered us to good menu choices, with a ready smile and known suggestions (nowadays more rare than an aged waygu steak). The pan-seared trigger fish with rice and Carolina green beans was superb. Had Tuscan butter sauce on the side—glad I did because couldn’t stop eating it! Nice ambiance with bar seating under shell lamps and outdoor, inside tables and booths. Also large dining room in rear. One of the best road trip meals we’ve had!

We stopped in during our first night in town. Our bartende, Bex, was amazing! We had the mussels, burrata salad, and grouper bites. Everything was great. We even order extra bread to dip into the mussel sauce! The Blondie for dessert wasn't the best, but still great with our after dinner espresso martini!Food: 5/5

We had a wonderful dinner here. The service was a bit slow but that’s been the case everywhere we’ve dined- still a shortage of workers. The mussels for an appetizer were absolutely the best we ever had. My chicken pasta cordon blue was great and enough for leftovers the next day. My friend ordered the special which was shrimp, scallops, mussels in a white wine and fresh tomato sauce which was also wonderful. Wish this place was closer to home- it would become a regular dining out place for us.

Great service, mediocre food. We went for dinner on Valentine's Day, me and my wife both had the specials. Extremely overpriced for what we got. Paid prime price for a choice steak, and my wife had the duck, that was good just not $36 good. Should have stuck with the menu entrees! I'll give them another try though.Food: 3/5

Tucked on Front Street in downtown Georgetown with a waterside dining room, Root serves inventive coastal comfort—mussels, peach crostini, shrimp & grits and a memorable whiskey sour earn frequent praise. Knowledgeable, friendly servers and a warm atmosphere make it ideal for date nights and gatherings. Expect excellent flavors but occasional slow service, staffing shortages, inaccurate menu listings and variable drink availability; specials can feel pricey. Many diners find the food and ambiance worth the occasional hiccup.

Haven?t had the food yet, but 40 minutes after the order and the kitchen staff seems to have difficulty getting orders if not even busy (seriously not busy, Buzz?s Roost is open and busy, this place is not) and we can not even catch the bartender eye to get a second drink while we wait? Two stars are generous at this point. Eat somewhere else.

Good food. Sea bass/ shrimp and gilled erdge salad was amazing. Loud in the back room.

We had the Sunday brunch. Everything was amazing. 10/10 would recommend..

Our second time here! We have tried different dishes each trip, they were all delicious. We are coming back for sure! Highly recommend you stop by if you are in the area.

Sat down and was worried about the menu, nothing jumped out at me and it was a small menu. However, after ordering the Adukt Grilled cheese, Cheesesteak egg rolls and Meatballs and grits we were extremely happy with the food. It is top notch, so there is something about doing a small menu but doing it VERY well. I highly recommend this place. The food, atmosphere and service is on point!

Our second time here! We have tried various dishes every trip, they were all delicious. We'll be back. Very recommend you stop when you are in the area.

We ate in the root last night. We are part-takers here in the SC and have loved our past experiences at The Root. Yesterday we brought family with us and The Root was not disappointed. We had the Meatball and Grits together with the Fried Deviled Eggs. Delicious! A fresh salad was served on a cold plate with homemade dressing. Delicious. Meals were also great. People had the special steak and pork dishes. I had Scallops and Risotto and our last group member had the grouper, Scallop Cake Special. Everything was great, arrived on time and our server Natasha (I think) was wonderful. We'll be back before we go home for the summer. Thank you, Root

Good food. Sea Bass / Shrimps and Gilled Straw Salad was amazing. Sounds in the back room.

My wife and I had a fabulous dinner at Root tonight. Our server Natasha was wonderful! She was knowledgeable, helpful and extremely pleasant. She made great suggestions and we enjoyed both our appetizer and our Entrees, Sea Bass Beef Short Ribs! This was our first visit but it won’t be our last!

Atmosphere was wonderful and the staff was extra friendly and attentive even as busy as it was. Tasha was covering it all with a smile on her face. I wanted to try every appetizer and I probably should've! The meatballs were so good! I was set up withpretty high standards but unfortunately the Bolognaise didn't hit the mark for me.

Hands down, one of the absolute best meals I have ever eaten. As a chef and restaurateur, I cannot recommend this place enough. We started with the peach crustini and drinks the appetizer was unique and the Whiskey Sour was killer. My girl friend had theShrimp and Grits and I had the Pork Chop over sweet potatoes. She said her grits were perfectly seasoned and the cranberry saucethat came over top the pork paired well. And our server Rick was great too he was very knowledgeable and fun and made ourexperience even better. Like all restaurants, they are short staffed and are experiencing shortages but that is the currentrestaurant climate and that should not discourage you from giving this place a go. You will not be disappointed.
