Description

Maguire's in Rowlands Gill remains a beloved local destination for takeout fish and chips, praised for its fresh, tasty options and quick service. While recent inconsistencies in portions and fish quality have raised concerns among some patrons, loyal customers continue to appreciate the variety, including the standout beef dip sandwich. A shift to using a vinegar spray has sparked debate, with calls for a return to traditional serving methods, but many still favor its quaint charm and commitment to providing smaller portions for those preferring a snack. Overall, the establishment balances its reputation with fluctuating feedback yet retains a dedicated following.

The staff at this restaurant consistently serve incorrect portion sizes, never getting it right. When I asked for a large portion of chips, I received a small one every time. The fish was also disappointing, being slimy and clearly not fresh. The battered sausages were undercooked and had a taste of old oil. Furthermore, the prices were exorbitant. The staff seemed more interested in their phones than in their customers, handling food right after touching their dirty devices. They appeared unwelcoming and lacked personal hygiene, with one man and two women being particularly rude and ill-mannered. The overall cleanliness of the shop was questionable, with employees sitting on sacks of potatoes and smoking near the door. It is best to avoid this place entirely.

Very very average fish and chips, lukewarm and greasy, polystyrene boxes, service indifferent, poor value and not worth checking out.

I have reviewed displays before and given it five stars. The fish and chips are still good although running out of fish at 7 o'clock on a Friday night didn't really impress. The biggest complaint is the policy of getting rid of bottles of vinegar and using a garden spray to apply a mist of vinegar to be wafted over the top fish and chips. This is not how traditional fish and chips should be served. It is cheapskate and unacceptable. The mist spray is also caused quite a stir in the local Facebook sites. If the policy isn't changed it will damage their business. That would be a shame.

We ordered beef Sunday dinner. The beef did not look too appetising and wasn’t, chewy, fatty and gristly! Vegetables looked good but were flavourless! Both my husband and son found hairs in their separate meals! Don’t eat the Sunday dinners.unfortunately three Sunday dinners went into the bin.

Have stopped by for fish and chips here fairly regularly over the years and it has always been good. The latest visit however will be my last. It was very poor, a mountain of dried out chips that tasted as if they’d been reheated from...
