The Skeff - Galway
The Skeff
Description
The Skeffington Arms Hotel offers a traditional Irish pub ambiance with prompt and friendly service. However, the food received mixed reviews, with some dishes being described as inedible. The bar itself, located in Eyre Square, is in need of updating, but the staff is friendly. The cocktails are excellent, and the whiskey collection is diverse. The seafood chowder is outstanding, and the Guinness is poured exceptionally well. Overall, The Skeff offers a pleasant experience, despite some inconsistencies with the food quality.

Strongly recommended. Classic Irish Pub in the center of Galway. Prepare your camera....
Lots of people when we visited and the food was good. The food which was two burgers took over an hour to be brought to us was frustrating. The wait staff at least ignored us and didn't ask about replenishing drinks while we waited.
We had booked a 13 hour bus trip from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher but got off in Galway and had booked a night at the Skeffington Arms Hotel. It's perfectly located for Shop Street, the main street in Galway, but also convenient distance to the walking paths along the River Corrib that divides the city on the way to Galway Cathedral. The staff were as everywhere in Galway and Dublin nice and helpful. Good rooms although the view of a tiny cavity at the back of the hotel was not great, but just a one night stay. We heard the music from the bar when we arrived at the hotel at midnight, but our room was far enough away from it that we were not disturbed. Breakfast includes hot options that the waiter takes your order for when you're seated. There should be information about that because we and many others we saw were very disappointed with the other breakfast options that was laid out, deducting a star. Maybe just a temporary problem as it was apparently a temporary room for breakfast when we were there in May 2026?
