What NamasteHello dislikes about Picciuli:
This is a really good place to have a break from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism on Gallipolli. Its a relatively less busy street and therefore relatively relaxing,. Service was good and relatively speedy, which is what is wanted. Its also quite close to a number of local attractions, such as the Duomo and the Olive Press so handy place for a rest. This is great for coffee and a light meal. Very friendly staff. WiFi available. Lovely pasta meals. Right in the centre of the Old Town Gallipoli.
We stopped in here our first night for a drink on the way home. The wine was lovely we got some nibbles served with our drinks which was really nice, the waiter was lovely and friendly and so we ended up we came back here every night for a drink before going home. Staff were so friendly and the owner is so kind and looked after us so well. We ended our last night here and celebrated my daughters birthday. The staff couldn't be more kind and friendly and it is also really nice being able to sit out in the main street and people watch the night away. Really Fantastic times in this place!
This is the way I operate on holiday. I take a day or two to get my bearings, and that means I search out the high spots by following local people to see where they eat, drink, and spend time. As a single traveller, with one foot in the grave, I welcome support. And translation. I look for the heart of the community. In Gallipoli's historic centre it's Picciuli. No doubt about that. It's where I met the giggly Nonnas, the movers and shakers , the families, and best of all, the family who own and run this amazing bar and cafe. That family became my family, sorted me out when I had a dispute with a neighbour, introduced me to restaurateurs, carried my case, found me a B&B when my rental made me ill, and gave me WiFi and Americano, and Peroni (draught! . Many heartfelt thanks to Desi, Tony, Francesco and all the family. and staff Every tourist needs you! And, as if I need to say this, your coffee, drinks and food are superb!

We went to Picciuli because we were tired of searching a restaurant. The prices are low and the imbiss looks cheap but we were lucky to find something which already offered eating and which wasn 't too expensive. So we ordered oven-baked gnocchi and lasagne . First we got our water in plastic cups then we got our plastic cutlery.. It was nearly embarrassing to sit there with this plastic stuff while passerby looked pitying at us. Of course we didn 't expect something great considering the prices and the ambience but this was awkward. Then we got our meals.. Very small portions so the low prices became even expensive. The oven-baked gnocchi were warmed up but at least they were warm more or less. Well they tasted like anything. The lasagne was warm on the edges but in the inside it was cold so they even didn 't make it to warm up their pre-baked lasagne. We complained about the cold lasagne and the waiter gave us back the same nibbled lasagne on the same besmeared and dirty plate. This time it was hot as hell. We were perplexed, my girlfriend didn 't want to eat it and she was right. Even if it 's not a restaurant but where do you get back the same besmeared plate with a nibbled lasagne? Normally they should give us a new lasagne on a fresh plate. Well that 's not even the worst part.. I told the waiter that we will pay for my gnocchi (which were bad as well and for the water we drank but we won 't pay for the lasagne . He came back and told us that we have to pay for everything because we ate half of the lasagne. Of course we ate something of it because you can 't recognize that the lasagne is cold on the inside before you reached the border of the inside. The owner or maybe the daughter of the owner yelled at us, she told us we have to stay untill we paid for everything and that she will call the police. Maybe i have to mention that we ate outside so the discussion took place in the main alley of gallipoli surrounded by many people. And we discussed about 3-6 euros.. There were about 10 people sitting in the imbiss who weren 't eating so i think they were friends or family. Anyway some of them talked and yelled at us as well, of course in italian. The yelling owner (or daughter of the owner didn 't call the police but after 10 minutes she called somebody (maybe her father? . In the meanwhile there was a small guy who tried to threaten me by standing in my way and looking at me in a way that should be threatening i guess. Well me and my girlfriend were tired of that discussion so we paid half of the price for the half lasagne and left. In summary this is the worst restaurant/imbiss/whatever i have ever seen. Plastic cutlery, tiny portions, bad pre-baked food, not even warmed up properly and above all: a terrible owner/waiter and terrible people (friends, family who fight for a few euros. You should clearly avoid this place!
