Reviews - Ragin' Reef
Reviews summary
Ragin' Reef delivers stellar seafood in a casual, nautically themed setting—think crab cakes with no filler, fresh James River oysters, fish tacos, jambalaya and generous portions at reasonable prices. Attentive service, clean facilities and ample free parking make it an easy stop off the interstate. Most diners praise the flavors and value; a few report slow service and a management issue around coupons, so expect excellent food with occasional service inconsistencies.

The food is amazing. Overall would recommend. Definitely coming back soon. Fish Tacos: We got both fish tacos (Ragin' and Hawaiian) which are extremely worth it. There were three tacos but we both ate two before even remembering to take pictures. Thefish in the tacos were tender, well seasoned, and ample. It wasn't just like tuna salad but chunks of fresh fish. The fries werepretty good too. For my Hawaiian taco, the pineapple salsa was well balanced with other things. Also I was afraid the tigersauce was going to be too sweet or too hot. However, the sauce was lightly sweet to compliment the pineapple sweet and had alittle light kick. It was very good. Oysters: My oysters were from James River. They have a slight salty taste that I love fromthe east coast but are sweet and mild with rounded delicate flavors. It's a great choice overall for most. This was eaten toofast to get pictures of. The experience: Staff was attentive and positive; very good at describing menu items as well. Thefacilities were very clean. I loved the nautical decor.
Super awesome seafood place. All the food was fresh and delicious. The wait staff were kind and friendly.
This place is great, been here twice and both ti rd have left satisfied. I had the fried cod basket and wicked mussels. The last time I had the wicked mussels and the jambalaya. This place is on point, if I lived closer I would eat here once a week.

Ragin’ Reef Ragin’ Reef is located in Frederick, MD and is worth the trip to Frederick alone if you are from out of town. I have had the Sunday Brunch a few times and it is amazing. I had never had mussels before and they were delicious! As an entree I got the Crab Benny. It is jumbo-lump crab, with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. It had a wonderful texture and they did not skimp on the crab meat. The Crab-No-Cake is exactly as advertised. It is simply a fried and spiced jumbo cake of crabmeat with no batter. Definitely a crab lover’s dream! The cream of crab soup was adequate. I make my own cream of crab soup using heavy whipping cream, so I am a bit biased. A great appetizer to start with are the raw oysters. They go great with tabasco, lemon, and cocktail sauce. Make sure to wash everything down with their Maryland style bottomless Bloody Marys. If you like a seafood brunch, Ragin’ Reef is worth the trip. Cheers! Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Raw Oysters
I had the best mussels ever! They were seasoned just right and even after eating them I still wanted more lol. The water was good because you know sometimes the water is off or tastes like a little dirt is in it. My mojito was so good as well. It was very light and refreshing. The brownie with vanilla ice cream was dead on! Customer service and atmosphere were superb! I also would like to point that it is downtown so there is limited parking spaces. I’m going back the next time I’m in Frederick! Best raw oysters I’ve ever eaten. Sourced locally from the James River estuary. And if you want a real authentic Maryland crab cake with no filler? This is THE place. In town for only the weekend? Please don’t miss this gem. I went twice. The oysters were just too good to pass up. Just pure, unadulterated, delicious Maryland crab.
Great, reasonably priced seafood. Good crab cakes. The cedar plank salmon is a great choice, too, and lo-cal. Service good. Not sure whether Alex the server 's voice is his normal voice, or his special Alex-the-server-persona voice Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Fish Tacos, Double Crab 'not ' Cakes, Cake Salad, Red Beans Rice
Wow! So glad we stopped in! Needed someplace to eat while we traveled and this was not too far from the interstate, but it is worth going out of the way for! The best crab cakes I 've ever had! No fillers, just crab! The jumbo shrimp are huge (and delicious). Even the coleslaw and fries are good. The waitress was sweet and very prompt. I will have to plan a trip to Maryland just to come back here! Our service was slow but our waitress was very friendly. However, I found the manager/ owner to be very rude and dishonest. When we asked for the owner he said he wasnt there. Come to find out later, we were actually speaking with him. Each FAMILY brought a 20% coupon. He would not honor them. What should have ended a wonderful Birthday celebration ended in disappointment. Thanks Johnathan (if that's your real name)!

By far the best seafood in Frederick great and kind employees owner is great and kind I will be there every week
We discovered this restaurant by chance while walking by and were instantly drawn in by the delicious aromas wafting from the packed lunch crowd. Eager to try it, we returned for dinner that evening and were lucky to snag the last available table! The atmosphere was vibrant and the service was top-notch. We kicked off our meal with fish tacos, which were fantastic, followed by the crab 'no' cakes that were simply amazing! My husband ordered jambalaya and thoroughly enjoyed it. They also have a great selection of both bottled and draft beers. The place has a warm and friendly vibe, and I can see us becoming regulars. Highly recommend!
We had a fantastic meal with excellent service—this restaurant is a must-try! The food was delightful, and I especially loved the reef baskets. They offer a great mix of grilled and fried options that are absolutely delicious. The mussels were outstanding as well! This spot is a gem for anyone in the Frederick area. From the welcoming host at the entrance to the bartenders and our waitress, Kate, as well as Steve D., the owner, everyone made us feel right at home. I’ve found my new favorite place in Frederick!
My daughter, son-in-law, and I had lunch at Ragin’ Reef after church on Sunday, and it was fantastic. We enjoyed some delicious dishes: crab cakes with no filler, a tasty lobster roll, and my son-in-law had the most amazing banana French toast. We all tried a bite and agreed it was exceptional. What stood out even more was our server—he was the friendliest and most enthusiastic person I've ever met. I would come back just to chat with him, even if the food wasn’t so great. Fortunately, it was!
