We went here for dinner with no prior expectations. We ordered the tasting menu when we couldn't decide on only 1-2 dishes. We were not disappointed. The service was amazing. The manager oversaw everything and kept it running smoothly. Sitting by the open kitchen, we could see that not a single dish sat before the waiter took it to the table. The tasting menu was spot on. Each dish was excellent. Basically, they choose 1-2 items from each part of the menu per course per person. For some courses we had 3 dishes, for others, 2. Even the desserts were thoughtful and not overly decadent, but just sweet enough. I can't believe a place like this is in Midtown, in a hotel lobby, no less, but don't let that fool you or you'll miss out.
I visited the restaurant on a Saturday around 5 PM before heading to a Broadway show. The service was prompt, and the waitstaff were very attentive, regularly refilling our water and clearing away empty plates. The tapas were absolutely delicious.
Very, very cozy with wonderful warm ambiance, exactly type of place where wine tastes even better. Nice menu, professional cooking, excellent attentive, respectful and pleasant service. In short an extremely fine representation of Basque cooking, wonderful Spanish restaurant.
Fantastic! I strongly recommend trying the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Our visit to Ortzi truly made our trip to NYC unforgettable. The oxtail was the best I’ve ever tasted—tender, full of flavor, and delightfully sticky. The service was exceptional; it was the best we experienced during our week-long stay. Treat yourself—you won’t regret it!
I cannot recommend this place enough! We were lucky enough to stumble upon it as we were walking in New York looking for somewhere to eat and it has been probably my favorite meal ever! I have always been a lover of both Spanish and Mediterranean food and who would’ve known that there is a whole separate category called Basque food that combines both of those! I was in heaven! Beyond the food, we had amazing service! The atmosphere is really quaint and swanky; it’s just an all around dinner place to go! I have a pretty severe gluten allergy and the staff was more than willing to help accommodate me. All of them seemed so knowledgeable as well!
