More people starte... read more The atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was delicious. We arrived early (13:45) for lunch, and the staff were just finishing family lunch. More people started arriving closer to 15:00. Our waitress recommended lovely wine to go with our meal. I had the spider crab soup, which came out as a work of art composed of eel, prawn, and flowers, into which she poured a delicious rich creamy soup. Followed by the grilled turbot, which was the best turbot that I have ever had. My partner had the blood pudding and the meatballs Madre. For dessert we shared the chocolate cake. Everything was not only a feast for the eyes but also for your mouth. Contrary to a previous comment, I found the portions quite large. The building and grounds are just lovely- a preserved farmhouse and barn set among gardens high on a hill overlooking Forua. Waitresses wear traditional Basque dress, and the room had all the original beams preserved and many other rustic/elegant touches. We could see off to the side the chef grilling our fish and meat over an open fire. A large log fire was burning in the hearth on the other side of the room, and a beautiful picture window looking out to the gardens and a rustic birdbath was in between. When we return to the Basque Country, we will make it a priority to visit here again.
