California Fish Grill - Foothill Ranch

Our first visit was a casual Sunday afternoon takeout experience. I ordered the grilled Mahi tacos, my husband opted for the beer-battered fish tacos along with Cajun shrimp tacos, and my daughter chose the calamari fries combo. Before tasting the food, we all noted how difficult the tacos were to handle. Although they weren't stingy with the protein, each taco lacked a blend of flavors. It felt more like we ordered fish from a restaurant that typically doesn't specialize in seafood. Each taco was heavy and, surprisingly, quite disappointing. The calamari appeared and tasted as though it had been reconstituted before being fried into cute sticks. It lacked any sweetness. Admittedly, the experience felt like a bad first date with someone who looked great on the surface, leaving me wanting to give this restaurant another chance. I genuinely hope this convenient location and enticing menu can turn things around for us. I'll definitely keep trying!

I visited this restaurant for the first time and ordered the grilled salmon with garlic butter and grilled zucchini coleslaw. Wow! The salmon was incredibly delicious—so moist and perfectly cooked! The grilled zucchini was fantastic; you could really taste the char from the grill. It wasn’t baked or overcooked, so it felt healthy. As for the coleslaw, I loved it, and I’m usually very particular about coleslaw. It had a hint of sweetness and included almonds, which was delightful. This place is amazing—I absolutely recommend it! The chef even spoke to me personally. You can get a fantastic fish lunch plate for under $10.00! If you're in Foothill Ranch, definitely eat your fish here! I was surprised to be the only customer, especially given how great the food is. I’ll definitely be back, and I hope you give it a try—it's a real gem!

I've dined at this restaurant about six times and have always left satisfied. The grilled fish is the freshest and best I've ever had. I visited this white tablecloth restaurant and found myself impressed, especially when comparing it to CFG. The calamari here is served as calamari steaks rather than the typical small rings, offering a unique texture that you'll appreciate if you know what to expect. I highly recommend this place.
