Pine Tavern - Floyd
Pine Tavern
Description
Pine Tavern Restaurant offers a delightful family-style dining experience, blending a charming atmosphere with comfort food favorites. Diners rave about the perfectly seasoned fried chicken, tender country ham, and fresh, homemade sides like real mashed potatoes and warm biscuits. However, inconsistencies in service and food temperature have been noted, with some dishes arriving cold or over-salted. Despite these occasional drawbacks, the friendly staff and rustic ambiance make it a popular choice for families seeking a hearty meal. After exploring the picturesque shops of Floyd, Pine Tavern is an excellent stop for those craving nostalgic, satisfying Southern fare.

This place and its owners are truly fantastic. The food is homemade and served family-style if you prefer. After a long day of driving, we stopped for a meal, and the owners were kind enough to let us park our RV.
Tonight 's meal was lack luster and riddled with a very rude waitress. Twice, I was delivered a piece of chicken that was ****. The first time, she tried to give me back my **** plate and was shocked when I told her that I wanted a fresh plate. The waitress complained when we asked for a refill on a few items, saying that she had to walk ALL the way back to the kitchen and to make our minds up because the kitchen only wanted to do this once . We have been here several times and always had an enjoyable meal. The food was underseasoned and not up to par. Potatoes and gravy full of lumps...beans were cold...cobler burnt. Completely disappointed!
We throughly enjoyed both lunch and dinner recently at the PTR. Comfort food reigns here served in ample portions. Fried chicken was perfect, nicely seasoned, juicy and crispy skin. Sides of mashed potatoes and green beans were well prepared and tasty. Biscuits were warm and plentiful. Reed and Jane, the owners, stopped by our table to check on us. Loved Susan, our waitress. PTR is perfect for family and friends. This team goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Look forward to our next visit!
So this charming place has some high points and some low making me land in the middle. Lows: over seasoned and smoke flavored pintos, cold chicken, luke warm tasty dumplings, tiny beverage glasses that emptied quickly and the burnt unidentifiable blueberry crust on top of some loose warmed blueberries.... sad. Highs: old pine walled dinning room, friendly server, amazing hot biscuits with strawberry jam, tender and tasty country ham. Experience took two hours, but why, if most families get family style why the delay. Parking behind the building.
This restaurant is perfect for a cozy family meal featuring comfort food. On Sunday afternoons and evenings, you’ll see plenty of local families enjoying their time here. I noticed Pine Tavern mentioned on Yelp as an ice cream spot, but I want to clarify that it’s not an ice cream parlor. They do have vanilla and chocolate ice cream, which you can get to go along with your cobbler if you're having a family meal. So come ready to enjoy some delicious home-cooked food rather than expecting an ice cream shop!
