In June, 2014, we had an unexpectedly excellent lunch here after visiting the Marmora waterfall. We were told that the present owners bought this restaurant in the recent past and have been improving it ever since. Lunch was delicious and I recall with pleasure the plate of meats from Norcia; in fact, this was the best sliced meat plate on our month long visit to Italy. Also recommended is the pasta with cinghalle (wild boar . And the highlight of our meal was the homemade gelato. We ordered one to share, ordered several more, and wished we had ordered even more! Slow service was the only negative as apparently the family (lovely people! are the chefs, servers, greeters, etc! Do stop if you are nearby or iin our case, make a detour!
Driving out the wonderfully scenic Valnerina road from Terni, four or five km past Ferrentillo, you come to the Arcobaleno 2 on the right. It's a reasonably large place which would be more cheerful with more people in it. During our visit, there was a wedding party in the banquet room to the rear. It looks like it could be a good place to celebrate something or other with a lot of friends. It was an autumn day so we were inside but eating out on the large porch in the spring and summer months would be very pleasant as the surrounding countryside is spectacular. My wife had fettucine with an abundance of porcini mushrooms. She said they just don't get better than that. I had pappardelli with cinghiale. Usually, this is a dish made with a lot of sauce with a bit of meat in it. Here, there wasn't a lot of sauce but a large amount of chopped boar meat imparted a wonderful flavor while retaining a surprising delicacy. For our second we each had an ample serving of grilled slices of pork and very tasty sausages, along with potatoes and cooked cicoria. The meat was excellent; the vegetables OK. Desserts were a creme caramel with almost more caramel than creme, and a nice dish of home made ice cream topped with liqueur. Splendid. We ate more than we should have and the bill was very reasonable. Our only suggestion was that it would have been better if there were a few bread sticks or something to nibble on while waiting for our food.
