The River Jack Tavern - Fairfield

I'm almost afraid to post this as I don't want to let the secret out. First time in, we stopped in for brunch. Had THE BEST sausage gravy I've ever had, and it's something I try everywhere I go. The wife even liked it, and she is normally not a fan. It was served over the most delicious, crunchy sourdough toast. Amazing! She had the steak bomb breakfast burrito and we both loved it. They didn't have hot coffee, but their iced coffee was a pretty good substitute. Waitstaff was pleasant, helpful, and very friendly. We will definitely be back to try lunch and dinner. Love the historic theme. It showcases an important part of the state's history in a really classy and tasteful way.Kid-friendliness: Strong pub vibes, so not really aimed at kids. No kids menu for brunch. That being said. We brought our 5 year old grandson. They were very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. He had their French toast and bacon with chocolate milk(in a glass, but we made it work) He really enjoyed the river jack theme and we spent our meal looking at the photos and log Amp on the walls and talking about log drives

This is a bit of a critique so I'll start off with the best parts. The dessert was excellent!!The nachos were very good too!The buffalo chix sub was over run with grilled onions and not the right sauce to meat ratio leaving the prominent flavor onion instead of buffalo. The elote' salad was tasty but lacking a base of lettuce or bread I opted for chips which were great! Probably should be included and called a dip instead of a salad. The French onion soups flavor was excellent! But the croutons were excessive and not toasted enough so it soaked up all the broth and made a soggy bread topping. The marinated chicken side was a whole breast which is great but came quite undercooked. It was still a little pink and seeping I'm sure the cook will temp it next time and not let this happen again.The atmosphere was nice for a tavern the bathroom was Very clean and so was the tavern itself. The service was lacking attention and she seemed to get a little frustrated with the requests which is understandable it was one girl for the whole bar and all the tables.All in all it was decent and is a nice place to eat. I hope that they see this review and can upgrade a few things. I'd like to eat there again it's close to my home.I am a chef of twenty yrs and would love to see this place shine. It has great potential!!

We had a great experience with Shelley at the bar! Food was delish!! Highly recommend this as a place to check out!
