Description

Choys Fish and Chips presents an intriguing blend of culinary experiences. While some patrons lamented stale chips and greasy, overcooked fish that left them disappointed and with upset stomachs, others celebrated the fresh, substantial portions and friendly service. The crispy batter and tasty cod garnered praise, particularly from loyal customers who appreciate the nostalgic, indulgent flavors reminiscent of traditional chip shops. With huge portions at reasonable prices and a cash-only policy, it appears Choys strikes a chord with many. However, consistency in food quality remains a notable concern for this local favorite.

The large chips is enough to feed 3 adults the food is always really good and the prices are better than anywhere else in Exeter. I would highly recommend this chip shop to anyone. Best chips around

They served chips that is not fresh and very old that is not even soft and it’s hard to eat. It seems that it has been there for too long (days) and instead of cooking for a new one they served us the old ones. We did not enjoy having it. Takeaways supposed to be serve fresh.

I decided to order takeout from Choys during the 2021 lockdown. I placed my order over the phone and it was ready on time. The fish was excellent, very meaty and chunky, and the chips were exceptional. It was great value for money overall. Just a tip: they only accept cash. I will definitely be ordering from them again soon.

The portions at this restaurant are always large and served hot. The staff is friendly and the prices are great! We even pass by three other chip shops just to dine here.

We 've tried several Fish Chip takeaways in Exeter, but as with Chippys everywhere, they all seem to be offering a slightly healthier version than we used to get when we were kids, which means the chips always end up dry and chewy. I think if you 've decided to get fish and chips, you 're not worrying about the calories for that meal if you were, you 'd oven bake your own, lower fat version at home! Mr Choy 's Fish Chips gave us exactly what we were looking for old style chipshop chips, some soggy and a bit greasy and a decent amount of crispy ones too! The fish was a little dry, just slightly overcooked, but still tasty. We also had a serving of their 'Chipchop Curry Sauce ', which again, tasted exactly as it used to. They also offer a 'Chinese Curry Sauce ', if that 's what you prefer. It 's obviously a very popular place, as we arrived at about 7:15pm on a Friday night and joined a queue of around 10 people, outside of the shop! We waited about 20 mins, but once we had ordered, it was ready within a couple of minutes. I had tried to phone earlier in the evening to place an order to collect later, but was told that unfortunately, they don 't take telephone orders on a Friday night. We ordered 2 cod chips, 2 extra portions of chips and a curry sauce, all for £19 for 4 of us next time we 'll only order 1 extra chips as the portions were so huge. We 'll definitely be back!
