This was a really nice bed-and-breakfast. The host was extremely helpful and friendly. The location is very convenient to several popular restaurants in Essex. The room was very comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay here.Rooms: 5/5 View all feedback.

I don 't know why this is listed like it 's a restaurant, it 's not. It is, however, one of the coziest places I 've ever stayed. I fell into the bed last night and my entire body let go. If you want modern, minimalistic not for you. The house is 188 years old, so it definitely has character. But as one review I read so eloquently put it it 's like you 've gone to visit an old friend or relative you haven 't seen for 20 years just. so. comfortable. Would absolutely return.
Where do I begin.....recently stayed here on a trip to New England, and I will never go back. The website is deceiving, and makes the place look better than it is. It is on a main road, and if your room is in the front of the house trucks rumbling by at 6:30 am will be your alarm clock regardless of what time you want to get up. As with many old New England houses the house is within a few feet of the road, and the road noise is obvious. The steps to enter at the back of the house are steep, the walkway uneven, and when we arrived the snow had not been cleared off and it was slick. The canopy bed in our room was just a frame that was open on top that had curtains that hung on the corner. The wallpaper is peeling in spots, and there are large water marks on the ceiling tile in the bathroom. There was a fireplace in the room, but not operational. The TV was small, and looked like it was from the 90s. The screen wasn 't more than 12 , and the picture quality was horrible. The hostess is very gregarious and BOSSY. She will complain if you don 't eat your food, gave me no end of grief for putting ketchup on her eggs , badgered us until we changed our minds about what restaurant to go to for dinner, and generally talks your ear off. I am sure she means well and is lonely, but I like peace and quiet on vacation, not to be told what to do. I expect a homemade breakfast with special dishes when I go to a B B. I got a lovely fruit plate to start, but it went downhill from there. The coffeecake was from a box mix with questionable blueberries, the bacon was microwaved so much it looked like wood chips, the english muffins barely toasted covered in half-melted margarine, and a huge pile of eggs which I made the mistake of putting ketchup on, because I heard about it afterward! The eggs actually were good, but I don 't eat that big of a breakfast, so I left much of it there. I was reprimanded later in front of my child for not eating the food, and that she had to feed it to the dog. We were happy to leave, and won 't go back.
Could not have been more satisfied with our stay. We reserved our honeymoon night here, and were welcomed with red roses in our room. We arrived later in the evening but we were told where our room was located in advance so we had no problem with late arrival. Breakfast the next morning was amazing, with *the* best eggs benedict you have ever had. My husband and I still talk about that breakfast to this day. Safe, convenient parking behind the inn, and only steps away from Woodmans, antique shops and restaurants. Highly recommended!
