We visit Elda with the purpose of buying shoes and someone just told us about Casa Jose. This is a very nice little place with friendly service very traditional dishes, nothing unique or inventive but what they have is all very tasty and fresh indeed. The wine selection is also great. Great atmosphere and in summer there is good outside seating. Our favorites were the super fresh calamari and Arroz con Bogabante. The staff is happy to be there, really friendly made us feel really welcome. We highly recommend the place.

Ok, first the weird bit. There wasn't a menu nor was there any idea of pricing. The waiter simply advised us of the options, eight for starters and six for mains. There were three of us and the occasion was my wife's birthday. We began with gambas, calamares romana and the absolute highlight, onion soup with a crust of gruyere cheese. For the main course we chose, Bacalao del horno, chuletas de cordero and solomillo, which were all excellent. Deserts included the best flan ever along with some stunning turron ice cream and a cheesecake. With coffees, two bottles of water and a couple of soft drinks the bill came to €86. One of the best meals I have had in Spain. Go and enjoy.

Two months after my first visit I am back again with a close friend who I have waxed lyrical to about this restaurant and I'm terrified that it's not going to live up to expectations. Fortunately I have no need to worry as it is on top of its game again. We started with Mussels with lemon and black pepper, every single mussel looked perfect which is a tough act and they tasted great. Next came a superb fois gras on a bed of fried cheese and sweet onion chutney worth writing home about. Main courses were Monkfish with artichokes and Bacalao on a bed of Cherry tomatoes. Both dishes were examples of how wonderful even the simplest dishes can be if the ingredients are spot on. My friend had the flan a casera with slices of membrillo, I declined thinking of my ever expanding waistline and regretted it afterwards. Please go and try this place.

I decided to give this restaurant a go due to it 's very favourable reviews especially from people living in the area. We arrived a little after nine on a saturday evening and we were the first ones there. After having driven past ELda 's main restaurant area not too far away and seeing that most of the restaurants were at least half- full we were rather surprised to find such a so-called prestigeous place deserted. We ordered almejas a la marinera and champiniones con jamon serrano as starters both of which were delicious. The main meal fish dishes of lenguado and merluza with tasty slices of potato and thinly fried pieces of artichokes were superb. I don 't normally bother with dessert unless it 's included in a set priced menu, but on the avice of my companion I opted for the tiramisú I 'm overjoyed I did. IT WAS TRULY DEVINE. There is no written menu as such the selection of goodies were read out to us by the owner 's wife. Expect to pay around 60euros a couple for a three course meal. Oddly enough we almost had the place to ourselves during our two hour stay.

Great surprise ! An original family home turned into a restaurant thirty years ago, still run by the family, near tha royal palace today a museum of Aranjuez , serves exquisitely prepared dishes using only fresh, locally produced vegetables fruits of the season . In short , three star level cuisine experience , in a family atmosphere with very reasonable prices.
