Reviews praise PizzaExpress Stockbridge for friendly staff, riverside terrace and consistent pizzas; notes of loud birthday celebrations, thin crusts and occasional lukewarm drinks.

If the weather is nice, I recommend sitting outside on the terrace next to the river. It's a beautiful spot to enjoy your meal.

We came across this restaurant while strolling along the Leith Water Walkway. The enticing smell drew us inside, where we enjoyed a delicious homemade lemonade and pizza number 7 with spicy salami. The service was quick and our waiter, a friendly man from Egypt, even gave us a complimentary sorbet when we guessed his age correctly. He truly made our visit enjoyable. Thank you!

Pretty interesting options for pizza, with good starters and desserts. Lots of seats on lower floor, and outdoor seating near the beautiful little river for warm days. Service was on par with rest of city, ie OK but nowhere near good . Good for a casual bite rest while exploring Edinburgh.

Their spicy pepperoni was worth the walk while we vacationed in Edinburgh. California, USA

Impromptu lunch cravings sent us to Pizza Express at Stockbridge. At 1pm the place was moderately busy and we were greeted by a friendly and efficient waitress/front of house lady who sat us downstairs with a lovely view of the Water of Leith. We were served by waiter Dawid a very polite and cool dude. Our order comprised: Calamari as a starter, a Calzone Classico, a Pizza La Reine (sic), a kinder/small Margherita and a Pizza Romana Basilicata. My Calzone Classico was perfectly formed and its crunchy dough was delicious and properly baked. Its filling, even though tasty (with Coppa, Finnochiona, salami Milano, spinach Milano cheese) was rather scarce as only occupied 50% of it being the rest just expensive hot air . My mates ' pizzas were tempting and yummy but the pizza base was wafer (too) thin even for Neapolitan standards which mean that they got cold really fast if you don 't take action presto . Minor cons: a bit overpriced and there 's room for improvement in the food department. On the pro side: the good service front of house, families and kids friendly, the flavoursome meal and the Pizza Express food consistency as you will get the same decent level of food and service irrespective of the branch that you 're visiting. I wouldn 't mind to pay an extra visit in the future.

More information

Although a chain, the Stockbridge PizzaExpress has a local personality: midweek promos and the terrace draw neighborhood regulars, and staff sometimes add theatrical flourishes (think operatic birthday renditions) that have become a playful local talking point — if you want a quieter table, ask for a riverside spot away from the party area or opt for an earlier lunch and finish with a riverside stroll.
