A birthday treat and we really enjoyed it. First time we had eaten there and the food, wine and staff all very pleasant and enjoyable. The Sunday lunch deal of 3 courses for just under £20 was good value. Even tho a set meal there was a wide choice and liked the selfservice first course where I had smoked salmon, ceaser salad, coleslaw and lovely rustic bread. My partner had an omlette made by the chef, closely watch... View all feedback.
What IngridR doesn't like about Malmaison Brasserie - Edinburgh:
The food at this restaurant was delicious, and I enjoyed one of the best cocktails of my life. The ambiance was typical for a Malmaison, and the music was at a perfect volume for a nice meal. Our only complaint was that we were served by about five people, most of whom appeared to be in training. We were asked multiple times if we needed anything else or if everything was okay during our two-course meal. It seemed un... View all feedback.
Nice setting not too loud for the time of the year and the staff were great so all in a good night and will definitely be back
I have been to the Mal a few different occassions and have been to every location they have in Britain. I wanted to treat a friend to a nice restaurant with good food and great service. I am always in for a treat when I attend any restaurant. The service is grade A and the food is also very good. Having good service and quality food always makes it worth the visit. I have been to other more pricey restaurants but have not returned because the service was slow and uneventful. Keep up the good work Mal!
This is an attractive restaurant in the heart of Leith, a beautiful suburb of Edinburgh. Our food was acceptable, but the service was bad. In addition to indifference from our servers, we were charged for an inordinate main dish as well as a 5 pound (unchanged) fee for bread! Gratuity has also been added to the invoice. When questioning these fees, our server told us the policy of the restaurant is not to mention the additional costs and wait to see if the customers complain. In Leith there are more better places for dinner. If you go here, check your bill in detail.
Not much as in Edinburgh recently. We ordered steaks that were all right, not great, just OK. My wife ordered a chocolate fond for dessert. Kellner said that the regular cook was out, so it can last longer than usual. 25mins later he comes back and says he had to tie the one he had done when it was a disaster. Couple of espressos on the house. Fondant finally arrives in the middle. Deleted from the bill. Need better chefs. It won't go back.
This was our first visit to Malmaison Brasserie and sadly I suspect we won't be hurrying back. While there was nothing specifically wrong with our meal or the experience, we felt that the fairly limited menu was unadventurous, uninspiring and very overpriced. £16 for a fairly standard burger with a bit of salad and fries is way more than we felt it was worth.
