We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. It was recommended in a city guide and the prices were reasonable, so we decided to check it out.

Is it the best Italian ever? No but tell you what in a city that doesn't like babies in restaurants these people love babies and kids.

Walking around Edinburgh on a sunny afternoon (so rare!) to find a nice place to have lunch outside, we stumbled upon two tables at La Lanterna

This restaurant may be easy to overlook, but it is definitely worth a visit. Run by a small family who lives upstairs, this place may not have the flashy appeal of a popular restaurant. However, the food is delicious. I ordered fried goat cheese, asparagus with fried eggs, white sauce pasta, and buffalo mozzarella and tomato pizza. Everything was fantastic, although the pizza was just okay for me. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. A must-visit if you are in Edinburgh.

I had visited La Lanterna a while ago when it was under different ownership, so I decided to give it another try. I was craving a hearty lunch, so I opted for the three-course lunch menu which is popular among those looking for good value. The deal includes a choice of soup, dough balls, or potato skins for starters, a pasta or pizza dish for the main course, and coffee or the dessert of the day to finish off the meal.
