Description

Step into the lively hum of Caffe Centro, a New Town Italian café where city energy meets honest, home-style cooking. Aromatic espresso and macchiatos arrive with real kick; pancakes melt on the tongue and a breakfast calzone steals the show for early risers. The menu moves from crisp focaccia starters to comforting plates of rigatoni, gnocchi and wood-fired-style pizzas, with a tempting dessert list—banana split and affogato among them. Sit at the front stools for cheeky people-watching on George Street or linger on the terrace when the weather obliges. With convivial Italian spirit, straightforward prices and a casual atmosphere, Caffe Centro is where everyday moments become little celebrations.

Reviews praise Caffe Centro’s coffee, pancakes and Italian mains but note variable pastries and occasional brusque service; busy George Street spot.

This lovely little establishment sets the tone with their dimly lit lamps showering over the table for an intimate touch. The tagliatelle bolognese was wonderful in flavour and presentation, coming with the perfect amount of Parmesan sprinkled on top of this rich tomato dish. As for their four cheese pizza, the flavour was definitely dominated by strong Camembert with the occasional chunk. Having asked for extra garlic to the dish, we were delighted with the added touch. Their desserts are mouth-wateringly presentable, although I didn’t get to try. Service were quick in their attention to the table and delivered well. Prices are very reasonable (especially compared to those in the area) I will be returning back here for sure

If I could give no stars I would. I booked this table weeks ago as we were travelling from Wales for my sister’s 60th birthday celebration weekend it was recommended by my friend who lives in Edinburgh. I booked a table for 5 of us what we got was a table for 4 with a seat plonked on the end. This table was placed between the kitchen the fire exit and considering I booked this weeks ago I felt it wasn’t the best position in the restaurant for a larger booking. After we received our drinks my 2 friends asked if we could be moved as the draft from the fire exit was unbearable, the waitress who was lovely I might add said she could move us to the windows however it might be just as cold. So we moved, now we are all cold, 3 of us are now sat at the table in our coats. There was no comfort in this restaurant the radiator was not even turned on. Our food arrived swiftly however all of the plates they were served on were cold except my sisters as she ordered the lasagna it had been nuked in the microwave for so long it was bubbling oil took ages to cool down. So as you can imagine we are cold now the food is cold too. My friend had asked for a side order of bread was served the wrong one too. I mentioned to the waitress that we were not happy she asked if we wanted the manager I said no, on reflection we should at that stage. We carried on tried to make the best of the night as it was such a special birthday. We can also see that the waitress the manager are arguing about us. In the end one of my friends asks for him, oh my goodness what an attitude he had. She explained we were cold the plates were cold his reply was “ but was the food cold” all he wanted was an argument. 2 of us ate our meals and he agreed eventually to remove the 3 that had not been touched we paid for everything else, which came to £107 with drinks. We would of spent 3 times that amount as we wanted deserts more wine we were out for the evening, but we could not wait to get out of this cold uncomfortable place. He said I’ve removed the service charge for you, which was just laughable as he had 5 unhappy ladies in the restaurant. I told him how disappointing the whole evening was my sisters special night had been spoilt, but he could not care less. I am not sure if this gentleman is part of the family who run this venue or just a manager, but trust me he is not helping your business. We tipped the waitress as none of the evening was her fault she was a lovely lady.

Update ur google opening hours. I am sick and tired of walking to places that can’t take care of their Google business Profil.

I foolishly assumed that this place would be mediocre and overpriced based on its location. But actually it was really nice, £11.50 for a margarita pizza and it was great. Nice tea and coffee too. The cakes looked great but didn’t sample any

More information

Locals quietly swear by Caffe Centro’s breakfast calzone and the banana split—these items often create repeat visitors and can disappear early in the day. The best people-watching seats are the high stools at the front counter; regulars stake them out for a morning espresso and a view of George Street’s parade of shoppers and office crowds.
