One of the many pubs on Rose Street except this one has a huge difference, it never seems to have any punters in. I went in here on a football day and there was 5 people in the pub. One of them being me and another being the barman. The whole of Rose Street seemed to be packed so I never understood why this pub was so quiet. The Gordon Arms is yet another pub on Rose Street, and like the majority of the others, this one is also fairly indistinguishable from the rest. Situated in the centre of Rose Street, The Gordon Arms is right in the centre of the city and it is just a short walk from the main shopping street in Edinburgh, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach. It is not that there is anything in particular wrong with this pub, but neither is anything about it which makes it stand out from the rest and make you want to go back. I came here last year for a drink in the summer and had a pretty decent time. The Gordon Arms serves a good selection of beers, ales, wines and the usual selection of spirits, and the prices are pretty competitive, with a large glass of house wine costing less than £5. The pub also serves food, with a fairly traditional menu including sandwiches, pies, steak and fish and chips. I found the staff friendly, welcoming and attentive, and there was a lively atmosphere inside. The Gordon Arms is a pretty average pub in my opinion, and there are better ones with more character just round the corner from it.

I did enjoy it if I'm honest as I got the chance to buy a pint and have a sit down and read my book at the same time which was lovely. Wouldn't suggest going in to the toilets, I got a bit of a fright with how shocking they were. The barman was awesome though and I ended up spending an awful long time speaking to him about comics and graphic novels. If you're after a quiet pub for a drink with a friend on Rose Street then you've found it.
