Diners rave about its hearty offerings, from expertly crafted pies to delightful fish and chips, all served hot and fresh. The inviting atmosphere enhances the experience, making it a perfect spot to unwind and catch a game. While some patrons express a desire for more homemade options, the attentive staff consistently deliver cheerful service in a cozy setting. Overall, The Mitre Bar stands out as a must-visit destination for both a relaxed drink and a satisfying meal in Edinburgh.
The Mitre Bar is a stunning pub that stands out visually among the pubs we visited in Edinburgh. We sat in a booth in the dining area, separate from the lively bar area, which allowed for a sense of privacy. Our server was lively, humorous, and provided excellent recommendations from the menu. While the service for drinks was a bit slow, it was understandable as there was a Rugby World Cup game on that night. The drinks were delicious and strong, and the food was outstanding. We tried the Schnitzel, which tasted just like how my German grandfather used to make it for me. The Stovies, similar to beef stew, were perfect for the cooler weather. This is definitely a must-visit spot for a meal in Edinburgh.
We love this pub in Edinburgh. The bar area is stunning. There were many diners, but we stopped in just for drinks.
One thing that never disappoints is the standard of pies and service at a Nicholson pub. Booked a table for 4pm but arrived a lot earlier due to finishing a tour sooner than expected, despite this the staff managed to find us a booth straight away rather than making us wait. Lovely pub with individual booths for you to sit in. My wife ordered a Chicken and Mushroom Pie and I decided to try a Crofters Pie, despite being unsure about the Haggis mash on top. However, as usual with Nicholson's pies the taste and presentation of the meal was superb and we had a fab meal.
I like the Mitre and have been there on a number of occasions. It’s can be very busy as it’s in a tourist area so better to book. It is really handy for events in the old town. The food is good, solid fun fayre, pies are great and the chicken schnitzel very tasty. Good range of real ales usually available. The down side can be the busy-ness can mean tables are close together if you’re not in one of the booths and staff can be a bit inexperienced. Good value though and I’m sure I’ll be back again.
I dined alone for dinner two nights in a row. On both occasions, the waitress rearranged things to accommodate me at a table. The food was tasty and served promptly. The waitress was cheerful and friendly.
