We ordered the breakfast special, which included a breakfast sandwich and a drink (we chose coffee). The price was very reasonable and the coffee was large and delicious. View all feedback.
We were warmly greeted by our host, Vivienne, at 11pm, even though it was past her usual check-in time. It was a delightful surprise! Vivienne, who has lived in Edinburgh her whole life, provided us with valuable information on things to do, places to visit, and sites to see. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and you can't go wrong exploring it. Our accommodation was just a short walk from the Royal Mile, allowing us to easily reach the city center in 15-20 minutes. The rooms were clean and quiet, and the breakfast was excellent. Vivienne was just as friendly and welcoming in the morning as she was in the evening. The entire experience was a perfect 10! Thank you, Vivienne!
My wife and I had a wonderful experience at The Sherwood Guest House from the moment we walked in the door. The decor was warm and welcoming, as was Viven, the owner of the guest house. She greeted us with a big smile and even helped us with our heavy luggage up to our room. The Sherwood is conveniently located near bus lines that can take you to the town center, and it is within walking distance to many sights (for those who enjoy walking). As Orthodox Jews, we appreciated that The Sherwood is close to a synagogue, Chabad, and a supermarket that sells kosher products. Our room had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed, microwave, and towel warmer in the bathroom. While we couldn't eat the breakfast provided, Viven was understanding and offered us fruits, vegetables, and kosher bread. We highly recommend Viven and The Sherwood Guest House. - Isaac and Ruth
Vivian has taken charge of this B&B since our last visit, and she has made sure to maintain its cleanliness. The breakfast we had was delicious, and she even prepared a to-go breakfast for us when we had to leave early for a flight. Our stay was truly enjoyable.
We arrived from Amsterdam to Sherwood in a taxi and were greeted at the door by Sue. She was putting brand new carpet in and was apologizing for the state of the foyer, but really, it looked beautiful even with the carpet being taken up! The new carpet, in place the next day, really looks great. We were each given a key, very useful when people might want to split up, and shown around. The breakfast room is gorgeous, with a computer with free Internet access available to guests. The rooms themselves are luxurious, and everything looks new. The bathroom was the best stocked I have ever seen, with plenty of huge towels, soaps, shampoos and lotions, and even cotton balls and cotton swabs. Everything is thought of. The shower is completely modern and lovely. Again, it looks brand new.Breakfast was perfection. We were given coffee and tea that was served very hot, and there was a large variety of food: fruit, yogurt, milk, cereal, rolls, cakes and muffins, meat and cheese, juices, boiled eggs, and oat cakes. I am probably forgetting something. There was every kind of food you could want. The location is wonderful. The street, if you walk 20 minutes towards town, intersects with the Royal Mile. There you will also find tour buses departing, city buses, and all kinds of shops on the way there. There are excellent restaurants nearby. There is a bus stop steps away from the front door. One can buy an all day ride ticket for city buses from the driver. Sue answered our questions about buses, etc. All this, but it was dead quiet at night. Each room also has a TV and when we turned it on, Stephen Fry was right there! It was exactly what I hoped for. : In addition, in the cupboard were cups and everything you'd need to make coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, plus biscuits. There was a small fridge and microwave too. We had free Internet using our own laptop.I feel like we got a deal that can't be beaten. I would have paid twice the price for what we got. It made Edinburgh even more lovely.
A friendly and well-located restaurant, with good coffee and delicious pastries. The service is good, but a bit slow. There are seating options both inside and on the terrace.
