This has become my favourite cafe in Edinburgh. Hospitality takes skill, and the staff show that they are great at it. If you decide to visit Cafe Marmalade you'll feel at home as soon as you walk through the doors and get cosy. The food...variety is great and they have gluten free and vegan options, and the make a great coffee. The staff are attentive and friendly. I love this place! View all feedback.
What Martin D doesn't like about Cafemarmalade:
Nice staff, an alright atmosphere. Like the fact that it's dog friendly. Everything else however let this place down unfortunately. I had the scrambled eggs on toast, I received a plate of unseasoned overcooked eggs with a side of toast in a tacky basket. I liked the fact they were generous with the butter and lake land dairies are a very good choice of butter. Alot of places never give you enough, but I still had bu... View all feedback.
Alot of places never give you enough, but I still had butter left when I was finished. Coffee was some of the worst I've had, struggled to finish it I'm afraid to say. I also felt the crockery could have been cleaner aswell. All and all, a bit of a let down and I'm sorry to say I won't be back.
This is not a fancy place but a very nice Cafe that offers excellent hot coffee beverages and homemade breakfast, rolls/sandwiches, salads and some hot homemade meals. The service is awesome. We went for breakfast 3 days in sequence when we were in town and the lady that takes care of the business was consistently professional and kind, remembering our choices, given great advices about the neighborhood as well and kindly asking how it worked in the next visit. Price is very honest, with a full Scottish breakfast for only £3.95 (in general, the most expensive item in the board menu). They have free daily newspaper available to read at the premises and comfortable seats to read them, if one wish. Quality is taking very much in consideration here. Their latte and their cappuccino are top and they serve Twinngs tea.
Great food, great service, and great ambiance for a great price. Visited Scotland from USA and found this great little gem around the corner from where we were staying. I wish I had more stomachs to try their other dishes.
I love Cafe Marmalade for various reasons. First of all, it produces amazing flavourful soups which tempt you to come back day after day... Every day they have 3 varieties of soups and you get a large hunk of baguette to go with it as well. So for example a large cup of tomato bean soup to takeaway is £1.70. One day I was hesitating between two flavours and the lady kindly offered a wee sample for me to taste which I thought was a nice touch. In fact all the staff there are super friendly and always smiling, which is another reason to go there. Cafe Marmalade also does nice salads, wraps, sandwiches and cakes. They also sell portions of home made foods, e.g. lasagne so I would say pretty much all your lunch time needs are satisfied here :
I've been visiting Marmalade on and off since I started my new job, and have been here a few times before too. Every time food has been quick, yummy and a good price. Today I had the Ploughman's Salad, which I thought would arrive in a small plastic container and I'd have to eat with those horrendous plastic forks. But no, a big plate of ham, cheese, egg, two kinds of pickle, lettuce and tomatoes landed on my table and I was mighty impressed. All for a paltry sum of £2.60! I think I will be a regular here from now on.
