After booking a short stay in Edinburgh for Easter, I decided to try out this restaurant for our first meal. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be just a short walk from where we were staying. This worked out perfectly after a long and tiring 6-hour journey. The staff at the restaurant were exceptional and the quality of the meals was impressive, catering to all dietary preferences. I was particularly impressed by the delicious vegan meal I ordered, and my family thoroughly enjoyed their choices as well. Our waiter, who I unfortunately didn't catch the name of, was welcoming and knowledgeable. He even shared interesting information about the cafe's concept, which involves three different themed stores around Edinburgh. We finished off the evening back at our apartment, sharing a fantastic vegan dessert. Overall, it was an amazing start and a great first experience in Edinburgh.
It can be challenging to find food when you have multiple allergies, but our experience at the Apiary completely changed that perception. When we explained our group's range of allergies, the staff assured us that they could accommodate any restrictions without any issues. And they definitely delivered on that promise. The food was incredibly delicious, custom-made with care and passion. The service was exceptional, combining attention to detail, efficiency, and a touch of humor. The Apiary offered us the rare opportunity of enjoying a 3-course meal despite our allergies. The staff were amazing, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel like old friends. They went above and beyond to ensure all our needs were met. I highly recommend this fantastic little restaurant, and both Jenni and I will definitely be returning.
The ambiance was not our cup of tea seemed like a place for students and other University types. The seat covers looked a little tired and not clean. I thought the food was excellent overall. The Scallop starter was on the bland side but the Beef blade bourguignon was really nice. Bit strange no mushrooms in the dish and the pancetta was a bit rough (Spanish rather than Italian? The smoked potato was a new experience but a good one. The staff were attentive.
This restaurant has nice decor, friendly staff and some good food. It is a pity that the serving times are quite extraordinarily slow and one is kept waiting 30 or 40 minutes for one’s food. If you have something to do, for example a train to catch or a scheduled hospital visit, this is profoundly inconvenient and irritating. I assume that in the restaurant trade there is some generally accepted waiting time. Whatever that time is, The Apiary exceeds it.
