I can assure you that... read more The food was disappointing and served cold. We ordered the pork belly burnt ends, but instead of being smoked for hours, they were fried. I can assure you that cracklings are not anything like burnt ends. The dish came topped with BBQ sauce and sour cream, which is an odd pairing. We were quite let down. My wife had the chicken with Brussels sprouts; the chicken was overcooked and lacked flavor, while the Brussels sprouts were cold and had very little bacon. We sent the dish back due to the temperature issues, and while the chicken returned slightly warmer, it remained dry and bland. Most of the Brussels sprouts were still cold. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money here.

Overall, Matanuska serves some solid brews, and their fries pair wonderfully with the beer! The atmosphere can get a bit chaotic during peak hours, but it’s generally quite pleasant. The staff is always very helpful, and they provide a good selection of dark porters, stouts, and IPAs. This place is definitely a staple for the residents of Eagle River!

However, someone made a huge mistake by completely revamping the menu, and now it’s quite disappointing. The new pizza options are all bland, meat-heavy choices, and they removed most of their burgers. I used to visit every other week, but with the new menu, I don’t think I’ll be coming back unless they reinstate some of the original, better items.

When I arrived, a waitress told me to sit anywhere, which I did. However, about 30 seconds later, I was sharply told by someone I believe was the owner or manager that I was in the wrong seat. Instead of kindly asking me to move to the bar, she loudly declared that I was in the wrong spot but would allow it this time, then walked away, leaving me feeling quite embarrassed. I almost left, but instead, I moved to the bar, which seemed to annoy her. Everyone else on staff was very friendly, and my meal was excellent. I was surprised the restaurant was so quiet on a Saturday night, and I wonder if management might be a factor. I hope my next visit goes better.

It took 20 minutes just to serve the 3 pancakes, then 5 minutes later the first Eggs Benedict arrived cold, followed by the second one cold as well five minutes after that. The food was cold! If you’re charging nearly $100 for breakfast for two adults and three kids, the food should at least be hot and delicious. Instead, the dishes looked unappetizing and were cold to the touch. How long do hash browns need to sit to get cold? I even had to ask the host to clear cups and plates to make room on our tiny four-person table that was awkwardly seated with five people. Overall, terrible service and cold food—very disappointing. I will never come back for breakfast. Thank you.
