Beautiful decor ambiance in this yr old room. We had appetizers, duck lamb main courses desserts. Food was world class as good as it gets presented like Art. A true gourmet experience. Waitress was lovely and extremely accommodating. Wine...cellar very interesting. This restaurant is a true gem. View all feedback.
We visited for dinner on a warm summer evening and enjoyed a perfect view of Eagle lake. We were lucky to arrive early and get the only table situated in front of a full height insect netting (all the others either have a smaller window or no lake view at all - which seems strange as the view is lovely and arguably the best feature of this restaurant). The service was friendly, prompt and attentive. For some reason, management had decided to play Andrea Bocelli performing a Phantom of the opera song at unnecessarily high volume and what felt like a "repeat track" that quickly grew irritating. We might have preferred the sounds of nature (loons and such) but instead endured Senor Andrea bellowing at us. The wine list was adequate and reasonably priced. The appetizers were very good, in fact the mushroom cap so delicious that we had to order it a second time just to try to identify all the interesting flavours that the chef blended into it. The tuna was delicate and perfectly prepared. Odd that no bread was offered or listed on the menu. Perhaps a "low-carb" thing. The mains were just ok which was a bit disappointing after the quality of the appys. Both the Caprese salad as a main and the duck were rather greasy and uninspiring. As were the veggies on the side. The other guests were mature (elderly) which made for a nice, quiet evening (other than the blaring opera). The resort grounds are very nice and we enjoyed wandering around for a bit after our meal. Might go back if we were in the area again.
My husband and I went to Sir Samm's for a weekend when we were dating 16 years ago. We loved the Inn and restaurant and both have reallly fond memories of our time there; relaxing massages, canoeing on the lake, listening to the live music on the patio and luxiuriating in foam baths. It was a little pricey for our young income back then, but it was worth it. Ever since, I have kept an eye on this lovely Inn, but I can often find a package deal for an all inclusive week in the Caribbean for the same price as I can for 2 days at Sir Samm's, so I have always opted for the latter. Today I see a sale on Travelzoo for Sir Samm's where they are offering almost half price deals on their stays. I am very tempted to go back, so I read some recent reviews, and can now see why their rooms are on sale after all this time. Previously their Inn was so well run that it didn't need to offer discounts, people were happy to pay full price for everything that they received. Reviews write about rude owners and staff, inadequate food and unkempt grounds. No wonder it's on sale. Consumers are happy to spend their money when they know they're getting what they pay for, but they'll soon stop showing up if the owners stop caring. It seems that this is what's happening with Sir Samm's so for me it will have to stay in the back of my mind. I won't take a gamble by going back there and ruining a special memory.
What a fabulous dining experience while staying here! Very intimate! The food was fantastic! Service was exceptionally wonderful! Thank you for making our anniversary a night to remember! The You
Our group of six could not believe we have never been here before! Built in 1917 by Sir Samuel Hughes - check out the historic photos - this Eagle Lake resort is a treasure. Fine dining at its best in an old lodge with views of the lake. Ask to see the unique wine cellar on your way in. The appetizers are sized for one person -- we were warned -- but we could not resist a bit of sharing. A new twist on poutine. The mains cover all tastes - pasta, chicken, steak, duck done in two ways on the same plate was a huge hit. Then dessert arrived -- our guests from Taiwan were shocked at the huge slice of chocolate cake. Welcome to Canada! As the cottage is nearby we will certainly be back to enjoy this special place. The chef's presentation gets top marks. We will be back.
Food is on par with the finest restaurants in Toronto, and we've been to many. Service was very good, pleasant and not pretentious. Delightful little wine cellar to choose your wine. Enjoy!
