Reviews praise Tia's warm service, cocktails and value; many love the menu, though some note occasional order errors and variable dish consistency.
The staff at this restaurant are friendly and welcoming. The menu is excellent with tasty food and ample portions. I was very pleased with my dining experience. I would rate the service, food, and atmosphere all a 5 out of 5. I had dinner and the price per person was between £40-50.
This restaurant is fantastic, with incredibly warm and friendly staff. They offer separate menus for gluten-free, vegan, and both gluten-free and vegan options with a wide selection of dishes. The food was all fantastic, and even though the restaurant was busy due to the Lumiere festival, the staff remained cheerful, helpful, and attentive. They cater to dietary restrictions with separate vegan and gluten-free menus. Dine-in service is available.
We dined at this restaurant for a work event and we cannot praise the high quality of food and service enough. The service was absolutely 5-star, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommended dishes include the Jack Daniels Baby Back Ribs and the Hanging Kebab.
This is probably our 5th visit to Tias and I’d be reluctant to eat anywhere else in Durham. Everything about this restaurant is fabulous.
So from the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome, and that our coeliac daughter would be able to chose from a big range of safe GF options. The staff really knew their allergens, as they live with their own special diets. The atmosphere too was great, it was busy and relaxed, and it was clear there was a community of regulars that was entirely inclusive. This suits the informal style of the place, it’s cafe with lots of Mexican decor round the walls. The biggest challenge we had was choosing from the extensive menu. The GF garlic bread was generous in size, and tasted good, the jalapeño poppers were good too. For mains, the ribs were smoky and the fajitas smoking hot. Every one ate well, and enjoyed it. It wasn’t mega spicy, but this suited us perfectly. All in all, a great place to share food and chat, and a strong allergen menu.

Tia's regulars love that the menu hides little surprises — Portuguese treats like queijada and pao‑de‑queijo appear alongside tacos and ribs, and the build‑your‑taco plates make for a playful, shareable meal. Staff are known to remake dishes when things go awry, and evenings often turn into festive, sombrero‑style fun — ideal if you’re after a lively local night out.
