Reviews praise Tia's warm service, cocktails and value; many love the menu, though some note occasional order errors and variable dish consistency.
Had a really good meal here. Atmosphere was really fun with kids knocking about in sombreros etc. Fun was really good with a massive selection on the menu.
We decided to try this restaurant based on its positive reviews, but we were disappointed. The atmosphere was lacking and the food was mediocre. We started with the nachos, which were essentially a thin layer of lightly topped heated chips for ten pounds. There wasn't enough guacamole, salsa, or sour cream to share. The chimichanga was tasty but not very spicy, and it didn't leave a lasting impression. Overall, we have no desire to return anytime soon.
Great Mexican good, really friendly staff, great gluten free menu, nice atmosphere. Great mocktails at reasonable prices
Having never eaten here before, and the fact that my wife 's birthday was up and coming, upon looking at the reviews of similar restaurants close to where we were staying, this little gem of a place caught my eye. Off a reservation request went, and within a very short space of time, Clare responded. After arriving, and my wife not having a clue where we were going, we entered the premises, and oddly enough, were greeted by Clare, who confirmed our booking. It is at this point, that we knew I had picked the right place, as Clare wished my wife a happy birthday. The place was small, intimate, and very busy with a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very accommodating, and nothing was too much trouble. Service was extremely efficient, and the food was to die for, and was very well presented. Drinks were lovely, even the special Gin mix that Clare made for my wife. This is what you go out for. After the meal, my wife went to the ladies room, and Clare came to see me and told me she had a surprise for my wife, for which I knew nothing about. When my wife came back, she was adorned with a sombrero with a sparkler in, and given a shot to drink, Spontaneously, the restaurant broke into a chorus of Happy Birthday which made the night. If you are wanting somewhere to eat in Durham, then this place is an absolute must, but just don 't tell everyone. We will certainly return for another helping.

Tia's regulars love that the menu hides little surprises — Portuguese treats like queijada and pao‑de‑queijo appear alongside tacos and ribs, and the build‑your‑taco plates make for a playful, shareable meal. Staff are known to remake dishes when things go awry, and evenings often turn into festive, sombrero‑style fun — ideal if you’re after a lively local night out.
