**Exploring JC's: A Mixed Culinary Experience in Durham**
Located in Durham, JC's offers a blend of Southern comfort food that elicits mixed reviews. While some dishes, like the turkey wings and collard greens, have earned fans for their flavor, other items, such as overcooked pork chops and dark, unappetizing fries, have disappointed. Cleanliness remains a concern, with patrons noting cobwebs and stained tables. Despite these issues, the owner’s friendliness and a genuine desire for improvement shine through, hinting that fresh meals and a tidy space could elevate the dining experience. For those seeking homey, casual Southern fare, a visit may still be worth the risk.

Classic cuisine that's a must-visit in Durham—a place that truly captures the essence of the city, untouched by new developments and construction dust. This restaurant has been a staple in Durham, North Carolina, for over 30 years. One devoted patron has been coming here since she was just 10 years old. The atmosphere is welcoming, with Bible verses adorning the walls, giving it a warm, spiritual vibe. It's a favorite stop on every reputable tour of the area. The oxtails are incredible, reminding me of my grandmother's cooking. It feels just like home, and everything seems right in the world when you're here. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
If you find yourself in the Durham area and craving some of the best soul food around, you absolutely must visit JCs. The food is not only delicious but the atmosphere is truly exceptional. There’s a special warmth about this place that reflects in its fantastic dishes and welcoming service. Be sure to try the chitterlings, pig feet, turkey neck bones, and oxtails!
I've visited JC's twice in the 8 years I've lived in Durham, and I wish I had gone more often. If you're looking for no-frills Southern soul food, this is the place to go. Everyone has their own style of cooking, so it might not taste exactly like what your mom or grandma makes, but the food here is absolutely delicious. The turkey wings are tender and full of flavor, and the collard greens and cabbage were both excellent too.
The food is consistently delicious, fresh, and well worth the wait. Most dishes are prepared to order. I enjoyed a wonderful conversation with the cook/owner while waiting. I highly recommend this place!
I ordered two pork chops, mac and cheese, and yams. The pork chops were thin and slightly overcooked, though they did have good flavor. However, it seemed like I received one chop that was simply sliced into two pieces. The mac and cheese was lukewarm and not freshly made, and the yams had an odd texture, caught somewhere between mashed and casserole. On a positive note, the owner was very kind and personable, which made my visit more enjoyable. However, the food didn’t quite match the level of service. At one point, I considered offering to help streamline their orders, but I ultimately decided against it. Will your experience be better or worse than mine? Hard to say, but I imagine if you visit when the sides are made fresh, it might be an improvement. I'm sharing these specifics in the hope that your experience will differ from mine—and I truly want this place to succeed!
