Classic cuisine and a must-visit in Durham. The real Durham, the part that new buildings and dust can't overshadow. I've been in Durham, North Carolina, for the last 30 years, and a supporter of this restaurant for the past ten. Anyone who visits will understand its charm. The biblical verses are everywhere, adding to the atmosphere. This place is a favorite stop on any genuine tour of the area. The dishes here are a... View all feedback.

I ordered a double cheeseburger and it was good. But the fries were dark like it was cooked in old grease. I also ordered 3 chicken wings and they weren’t good at all. They were dark and smelled like fish and tasted like fish. It seems they deep fry everything in the same fryer or don’t change the grease very often. I worked in food service 16 years and we changed the grease once a week so I can tell when food is fri... View all feedback.

Let me just say that I didn't dislike the place, but as a chef I expected more. I'm not going to list all that I didn't like because that would be unfair because I am a chef. However, certain protocols should never be compromised. I ordered two pork chops, Mac n Cheese and yams. The chops were thin and slightly over cooked but had good flavor. I ordered two chops but it appeared that I had only one that could have been cut and made into two. The Mac arrived lukewarm to cold and wasn't fresh and the yams were a cross between being mashed and a casserole. The owner was very sweet and amiable and that made my visit pleasant but the food was not par with the service. I almost asked her could I offer some quick assistance to help expedite her orders but digressed. Will your experience be better or worse? I don't know, but I would imagine that if you go when the sides are made fresh, I'm sure that it'll be better. Let me add that I was specific because I'm hoping that your experience will be different and better than mine. I'm rooting for this place!
