Windjammer's - Dunkirk
Windjammer's
Description
Perched in the Clarion Hotel with sweeping Lake Erie and Dunkirk Marina views, this casual spot serves standout Indian dishes—especially a memorable chicken korma—alongside burgers, steaks and popular wings at fair prices. Strengths include a holiday buffet, generous condiments and scenic sunset dining; weaknesses are inconsistent service, slow checks, loud birds/music, outdated decor and cramped seating. Presentation can be dive-bar casual and pizza is a miss. Best for hotel guests, families and casual sunset dinners rather than quiet, upscale occasions.

Then our waiter approached us with a noticeable attitude. I understand that serving can be tough, but a smile can go a long way in creating a positive dining experience and earning good tips. When I asked her about the best item on the menu, her response was confusing. After she clarified that there were two menus—Indian and American—I asked her where I could find the Indian menu. Instead of providing helpful information, she only pointed out two items from the same menu, which did nothing to enhance our experience and only aggravated her already poor attitude. We decided to place our orders; she recommended the hamburger and the beef on weck, so I went with the hamburger while my partner opted for chicken tenders with sweet Asian chili. But that wasn’t all—THE BIRDS WERE EXTREMELY LOUD. We could barely hear each other over the noise of the birds and music. Speaking of ambience, the decor was outdated and worn. The neon sign was broken, and there were Christmas lights still hanging outside. The seating was uncomfortable, especially for anyone over the age of ten, which just compounded our frustration. When our food arrived, it was passable but nothing impressive. I wish I had taken pictures because the presentation was lackluster, resembling that of a dive bar—not what you'd expect from a supposed upscale restaurant. Finally, when it was time to leave, I asked for the check, which took ten minutes to arrive, and she LITERALLY threw it on the table. Talk about rude and unacceptable. I left a 15% tip because I try to be nice, but she was lucky I didn't leave only 8%. In summary, I would not recommend dining here unless you’re okay with subpar service and mediocre food.
We had a wonderful experience with the Friday fish dinner. The broiled fish was outstanding, and the portion size was generous. The service was quick and friendly. We also appreciated how clean the restaurant was, which is important to us these days. We will definitely be back!
We were visiting friends and they suggested the 6.00$ wings night and I am thrilled they did. The wings were great crunchy and flavorful many flavors to choose from.. Tablecloth is covered with paper which was a big hit for our 7 year old and also the adults... Service was good/mediocre but it was busy due to the deal... Area... I wanted to be closer to Cassadaga lake so I chose to stay at the Best Western, however, from the looks of it this place would be worth the extra drive... we took a lovely walk and watched the sunset after dinner.. the clarions pool (this is a hotel restaurant) overlooks the lake which would have been a nice amenity for an overnight. Restaurant was great and the hotel looks terrific
I was staying at the Clarion that this restaurant is in. Eating here was a last minute choice, because it was raining. I walked in, was seated quickly. I was looking over the menu when my server popped over to say hi and take my drink order. I tried the fried pickles which turned out to be very good. The breading was light and crispy, the pickles were spears and very good. They were still firm. Salad was good, not overloaded. The Parmesan peppercorn dressing was very good. I chose the 14 ounce rib-eye. The steak wasn't the best looking steak, but the flavor was exceptional. Cooked just right and not too fatty. Proving that you don't always need a classically trained chef to put out a good meal, but a good broiler man is essential. Overall it was a much nicer meal than I was expecting. My server was nice and never let me linger. When I go back in September I'll definitely be back.
Came here on a Saturday evening to dine on the patio for a view of the lake and docked boats. Bread came out warm with olive oil and herbs to dip it in. The server was attentive. I ordered the salmon salad and the salmon was grilled well. They have daily specials and a bar outside as well. A live band performed later that evening on the patio. The indoor seating was more formal with linen tablecloths and candles. Very beautiful on the inside. If you're dressed at least business casual, indoor seating is a great option. Walking distance to the pier and Cree parking at the restaurant with a very nice hotel lobby.
